Actually the risk is in your mouth more than the swallowing. Your stomach will destroy hiv and it's rare to have cuts in your throat making your gums bleed by brushing your teeth to have fresh breath before sex is the usual entry point if oral.

Use mouthwash not a tooth brush before a meet

Hiv doesn't kill you just makes you very vulnerable to everything else. Usually it's flu or something quite common that kills you off in the end

Hiv doesn't kill you just makes you very vulnerable to everything else. Usually it's flu or something quite common that kills you off in the end"

It to be honest is very rare now for someone to die of hiv... As early discovery can lead to treatment that can mean that they can live a long and productive life.

I get checked every 4-6 weeks depending and my play partner goes about the same but we stagger it so it's only ever 3 weeks tops without a test.

However if people choose to go bare that is there business and many that bleet on about safe sex don't practise what they preach.. also many do not have a true understanding of the different risks and to many think condoms equals safe.. instead of safer..

Its a terible thing, saw a young girl on a television program about a gum clinic who was just told she had got hiv and she had to take tablets, she was angry saying she had only had a quicky with someone who gave it to her.

Its something i always think about and get tested for quite regular.

Not everyone gets it though.

its not worth taking too many chances, not just for a few moments of pleasure.

How long had she known she had this before she died .? I read in the papers some now live years with HIV with all the new drugs on offer . Its all very sad Her fun killed her .

Depends on what testing for. If its antibodies will take weeks. However, antigen is very rapid in most cases.

However , she had her fun , and as long as she didn't hurt anyone else , at least she had her fun .

The sad fact that she may have infected others is awful , but each and every person takes their own life in their hands with choices made .

Her choice was to do what she did , and I am sure she enjoyed herself , and that's more than many in this world have managed

This highlights why I use protection. I too have lost friends to HIV. And yes I know that low risk doesn't mean no risk. However, crossing the road is dangerous enough but to do it in rush hour with your eyes closed is far riskier than crossing carefully at a designated crossing.

The problem is that so many people won't get tested, they are under the false assumption that heterosexual sex is okay and doesn't carry the risk . In spite of so much info available some do really believe this!

However those that do test positive and take anti retroviral medication can live a relatively normal life once the virus is sufficiently suppressed .

In the papers recently there was talk about un-infected people taking truvada as a means of protection and prevention of contracting the HIV virus. This is being heavily tested amongst couples where one has the virus and the other doesn't . Results are currently showing that the virus isn't being transferred to the other person. I have to add that this is in cases where the positive person has the virus suppressed

sorry for your loss very sad when anyone looses their life, but as the saying goes "if you play with fire ...".

we have never posted on a bb discussion but often read with interest. But find it disgusting and selfish that people continue to to it with regularity and pride and that people often say " well it's their choice... etc ".The reason we say this and I know it won't be popular is that , hiv still presents a huge global problem more in developing countries than in developed due to their lack of education and the fact in the more remote areas access to contraception is very limited or non existent. yet we have none of these problems yet still contribute to the spread of this virus with no excuse apart from " it's my choice ". billions is being spent to find a cure for this virus yet people continue to spread it therefore diminishing the efforts to eradicate it. huge sums is then spent to provide lifelong treatment of these people money which could be spent finding a cure or helping the developing countries who don't have the luxury of choice. it's also the legacy that will be left behind for future generations, what is the current generation doing to safeguard the future generation from such debilitating viruses. ? Then there will people who for no fault of their own end up with it, newborn children exposed healthcare professionals for example. so yes it is their choice but a choice I find selfish as it not just themselves effected but others and future generations. I understand no sex is completely safe but it can be safer !!

Doctors don't miss signs. As was highlighted, if she had been checked regularly then she would have known earlier. If she had safer practices, it would have helped but what your thread shows is that people should get checked more often. A check up is key, no matter what your sexual practice.

He was blaming the site and stating it should be banned.

The reason most disagreed with him was not his stance on BB and associated risks - but the fact he believed it was the sites, and not the individuals responsibility to police activities. That and the fact it would simply drive things underground rather than allowing people to see what was going on and make informed choices.

Two different issues completely.

I've lost 2 relatives in their 50s to smoking related conditions and hate it with a passion and would never do it

But I do accept others choices and as with HIV if people feel that level of risk, for them, is acceptable then from my point of _iew that's their decision to take

We are all responsible for our own health, what others do is up to them

Therefore the only way to have no risk is to delete your account and stop swinging

The rest of us that stay take a risk because the rewards as we see it are worth that risk, exactly how much risk you take depends on individually where you draw that line, but swinging does carry a risk, we should all be away of that and not pretend it doesn't exist

I always find it quite sad that this disease and all thee others do to a extent take the icing off the cake for me where sex is concerned how wonderful it would be to not have to worry about any venereal disease as they did,nt exist it would free up so many people in different ways but not to be so we have to deal with it

HIV takes years to develop into AIDS even without medication as often some people go years with having it but being un diagnosed without the full fact etc it's not one I'll make judgement on...we all take risks I've bare backed before and are fully aware of the risks however I fully use the fantastic sexual health clinics here and I get tested for HIV and I'm happy to say I'm negative...we are all responsible for our own sexual health

There are different strains of HIV and some are not even easily detectable until its at a certain level and ness do not work for all people to keep it dormant

Yes you can get it from oral sex too

There is a theoretical risk and the virus is found in small quantities in semen, saliva and vaginal secretions but presence of the virus is not enough, there also has to be a transmission route, through an open wound.

it's hard to prove an absolute connection because it's so difficult to find cases where people have been positive for the virus who have only ever exclusively practised oral sex-nobody with any credibility would put their name to research with that kind of uncertainty

Luck does play a part, you can do any risky activity and get away with it

Doesn't mean it was safe just you were lucky

Behaviour does alter your chances though

Intravenous drug use with sharing needles, multiple group anal bareback sessions etc all tip the odds against you

Oral is a theoretical risk but to be honest you've got more chance of dying walking down the street than of dying catching HIV through oral alone it's just so unlikely

The key for each person is decide on what level of risk you're happy with and protect yourself to that level, and don't be naive and assume because someone hasn't got bareback pics up they're 'safe' and someone who has isn't
