that's the Gideon bible an organisation that pledged to leave a bible in every hotel room. The reason there aren't copies of other religious texts is because we're a christian country

First thing I do in any hotel room is despatch that book of lies to the bin, in a carrier bag so it isn't spotted and replaced.

How dare they assume that every guest is taken in by the brainwashing of organised religion. Not just christian - all of them are as evil as the rest.

Who the fuck are the Gideons anyway? Has anyone ever meet a Gideon? They're like ninjas, we knew they exist because they leave these clues as to where they've been but no-one has ever caught them in the act.

Yes, I may have seen some Bill Hicks but its bloody true!

Condoms..well having a browse through the bible when I was in a Glasgow hotel I found...no not condoms but 80 quid!

So I thanked the Lord and had a good night out, ever since I make a point of looking through the good book when staying in hotels.

You should never flush condoms. A friend of mine is a plumber and has unblocked a lot of loos which have been blocked by condoms inflating in the u-bend (air as well as water gets carried through the flush) and the customers are usually mortified.

My friend intended to take the bag with him when we left but we were all checked out and getting some lunch when he turned to me and went OMG guess what I forgot...

Yes I agree but the Gideon Bible is there like it or not, I personally don't like it, however given that it is there by some blokes misguided idea years ago I don't see that I or anyone else can take the decision to remove it on someone eldest behalf surely that's as bad.as putting it there in the first place. If you don't like it start a campaign to have them removed or only available by request but don't take it on yourself to remove it because you seem others to have been brainwashed. On a plus point I guess it's nice to see a religious thread where it is the bible and christians rather than the koran and muslims being berated.

I'm in no way religious but I am happy to respect others beliefs. I think deliberately throwing a bible away is a childish and pathetic act. If it bothers you that much just take it to reception.

Just consulted Mr Google it was two business men who started it and it continues today funded via donation Marriot hotels were started by a Mormon so they have their holy book and some hotels offer a variety of religious texts.

I am surprised at the animosity towards bibles in hotel rooms, yes the Gideon society pledged to put them in hotel rooms from an early date so that travellers could use them, would I read it, absolutely not, but I don't care about them being there, some hotels have chosen not to have them and that is their prerogative.

Times change, Henry VIII ruled us in the ways of Catholicism and had little time for the Protestant ways, we have always tolerated many religions here, and have had Synagogues and Sikh Temples for many years, not to mention Baptist churches, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Presbyterians and more recently Mosques.

Most accept that we are now Europeans not English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish and further that we are a multi racial society, therefore it would be normal to believe that a multi racial society will also be multi religious.

Our freedoms in this Country also allow us to be non-believers.

I would not like to be the Hotel executive though, who has Gideon bibles within the rooms of his hotel but refuses to allow any other religious books into the rooms.

I wonder if it would be prudent to ban church bells otherwise on what grounds could we refuse permission for other religious calls to prayer ?

Is this a Christian Nation though,

Freedom of choice means you have the right not to read it if it holds no interest to you. Having a bible in the room doesn't turn you Christian lol

The porn argument is ridiculous as children stay in hotels.

As for chucking it away, all you are doing is increasing the supply and demand for the bible as they will replace it or they might even be clever enough to work out that the big book shaped bag in the tiny cylindrical bin is the bible that should be in the drawer!! Maybe they should charge for willful destruction of property? See how many that pisses off!!!

yes we are a christian nation, other religions are still in the minority. You would not describe Italy or Spain as anything but catholic nations even though the have Jews, Muslims etc living there.

Religion is a dangerous topic as an opinion like mine can be misconstrued and taken as biggoted and racist, of which i am anything but.

It is a book in a draw in a room, it doesn't jump out the drawer, lock the door and hold you hostage until you have read it,they also have extra pillows in the room, some use them some don't, if you wish to read the bible that's in that draw then do so but if you do not wish to read it then just leave it where it is, life really is that simple

If you throw that bible away, you are probably wasting your money, as the Gideons are a UK charity that is not paying tax, the same as other religions are able to here. Another bible will take its place, part funded by us all.
