It depends !

Nature dictates to us to find a partner who is healthy and able to pass on good genes to the offspring as well as faithful so said offspring will be looked after.

Nature sometimes suggests that we widen the gene pool by being promiscuous and for that purpose looks is the more determining factor.

Nurture often throws a spanner in the works by placing doctrine in the way of personal choice.

Personally I think I am a gene spreader by nature and happily nurture has not got in the way of my enjoyment so far.
