Good question. It's one of those terms you 'know' (or think you do) but struggle when asked to give a definition...sexual openness involving other people-?

By the way, I like that that some Americans call it 'the lifestyle'. Something innocent and quite vague about it!

some would say singles aren't swingers they are ( to coin a phrase used recently here ) swingles, however i would say the definition of swinger , someone who has recreational sex with multiple partners

I'd concur.

Once you have a definition, you have boundaries and those are used to include or exclude people.

By all means use your personal choices to make those decisions, but not an overarching definition of swinging.

Even in my circumstances? I'm currently on the site as a single fem but ive swung as part of a previous couple, and its how I got into the lifestyle, so continuedto liev the lifestyle as a single once the relationship broke down. If I were to enter into another relationship, I would prefer that it was again a swingers relationship, so I therefore define myself as a swinger, even though I'm currently single by choice. However, I believe that is the OP's point the term is open to interpretation

Sex for fun, as a hobby, rather than as part of a relationship. Whether that is part of a couple or as single people. To exclude single people makes threesomes impossible. Single men joining married couples are swinging as much as the couple are surely x

I think that you don't have to be swinging to be a swinger. Similar to you I have been on the scene as both a single and a couple. As a single I was not swinging, neither group sex nor clubs appealed without a partner in crime. But I guess I didn't stop being a swinger because I knew I'd be back at some point.

I see swinging as something a couple does, being a single female, I don't see myself as a swinger.

I suppose the definition of it would be openly looking to engage in sexual activity with a range of people. And if you make a few open minded friends along the way, what's not to like!

Does it really matter what the definition means, it could get quite complex, if , as a single male, I join a couple for some fun, does that make them swingers and me something else? Seems reasonable. I don't consider having NSA sex with my FB "swinging" per se, despite the fact that we met through this site.

What about if a single goes to a swingers club and has sex with couples, groups, other singles etc in plan _iew of others would you say they're a swinger then?
