"It happened to me and even more to my daughter. She was handed phone numbers constantly when she worked in retail, she was hit on by men frequently and I wont repeat what she thought of them. It's disrespectful to hit on someone when they're in a position where its difficult to be impolite without getting in trouble. " One of the reasons I have asked is because on some spotted sites. They will mention the word creep and all sorts just because someone has mentioned them on facebook (spotted pages). Which is where people can chat normally, yet they get called a wimp, etc for not approaching them on the spot, etc. Also is it just in work where this example applies?

" I'm not sure what you mean by spotted sites and if someone is mentioned on facebook the context might make someone think of it as creepy. Socially I think its acceptable to approach someone to strike up a conversation as long as you are able to realise when someone isn't interested in you and to leave them alone.

"The name isn't mentioned as it's a randomer. More of a description of them. If you're on facebook type in spotted Eastbourne (in your case) and click on the first match that has lots of likes. Or better still type in Cardiff or Swansea. You'll see what I mean by "spotted" then . But is it acceptable to do it towards a colleague if your a customer or the other way around? Or do you think you will see them again outside of work if things are meant to be? " Oh right thanks I've never heard about spotted. I don't think its acceptable either way.

One in my town is like an episode of Jeremy Kyle or a selling page, lol. Would you say the gym is the same as a workplace though?

If its directly approaching someone I'd say its acceptable in the gym but you need to be aware of when someone isn't interested

Right! Well in my opinion it is acceptable to approach anyone in a social situation but be aware that friendliness from a woman doesn't equal sexual attraction I will look at this spotted thing tomorrow too.

Is this the lady speaking? Lol. If so. How would you feel if a male colleague took an interest in you whilst on the till as you put your shopping through and as you were leaving said "maybe we could chat/go out sometime or maybe you could give me a call" and handed their number to you? That's after a being nice and having a friendly laugh on the till.

How I would feel would entirely depend on what had passed between us before, how I felt about the man etc. and I think I would definitely prefer not to be approached in a work situation . But, that is just me and other women might feel very differently

I know people wouldn't choose that poison, but my point was, what if you were? I know other people might. Hence the reason behind their thread.

". I haven't worked in retail for 13 years but I chatted and laughed with all customers and colleagues male and female, I still do in my current job. I never "come on" to any of them but there are men who are unable to distinguish between a friendly woman and a woman who is desperate to get them in to bed . So I say there is no harm in having a chat, no." So during one of those chats. If someone offered you a drink, their number or something, would you feel bad/embarrassed, etc?
