"Pride was started to raise money for people in need, without people paying, people with aids wont benefit, just the pubs, cafes, hotels and clubs." Are you sure? My understanding is that it was a political event against LGBT prejudice, hence the name and has never been primarily about charity.

" It started because of the stonewall riots in the USA, to raise awareness of homosexuality, and has always been used to raise money. CHE, The campaign for homosexual equality, started marches about 1979 I believe, mostly in university towns around uk, and they became pride events.

"The reason behind paying for the entrance to pride, was to pay for the clear up after the parade. I know why it started and it was a very good cause, I just don't agree with charging to get in. When you think it costs £600 for a float, not sure of the price for a stall." I heard that the organisers of Brighton Pride were just so cash-strapped through poor mis-management etc.
