Not only do I value my sexual health, I also value that of my partner's. Also, as the only safe sex is no sex, I like to consider my swinging and kinky friend's sexual health too by reducing the risk of passing anything onto them as much as I can.

In my opinion, by playing bareback, not only do you put your own sexual health at greater risk, you also put the sexual health of everyone else you play with at higher risk.

Personally I would not risk bareback, but it is an individuals or couples choice.

I have to say I would be livid if I went to meet a couple who state they practise safe sex and then find they expect me to do bareback.

There are lots and lots of things humans do, by choice, that alter their chances of mortality

Bareback is one of many that people do but because of the forum we're on the most contentious one

If we were on an anti smoking or drinking site the balance of what makes people's blood boil would clearly be different

As with all of these things that alter risk the key is to be aware of it and then if people choose to do x or y etc then it's their choice

Protection is a personal thing on here, if you protect yourself then what others do should be of no concern

Were all adults and all capable of making up our own minds about something. I wonder how many people who are dead against it smoke and drink, both are bad for you but I'm sure it doesn't stop you.

You should assume everyone, and I mean everyone you sleep with has at some point in their life barebacked and to be honest you'll almost certainly be right

Then make your decisions on what risks you do and don't take accordingly, but to assume anything because of an absence in a profile is highly naive

Think you should do a bit of reading before you compare the risks from drinking and (even) smoking to having unprotected sex with strangers.

Unless someone is actually blowing smoke into my face then the fact they smoke is indeed totally their concern. As far as I am aware it isn't possible for me to contract anything life-threatening from someone who drinks alcohol. on the other hand, irresponsible people who have bareback sex with strangers pose a risk to everyone else who sleeps with anyone they have slept with and so on. Condoms can break. Diseases can be passed orally.

It's a bit like doing 120 on the M1. You might get away with it. you might not have an accident. But you're far more likely to, and if you do the consequences for you and others are likely to be far worse than if you weren't speeding. And then imagine if everyone did it.

The fact that there are people on here with these views and we come across these threads and profiles from time to time puts us right off this lifestyle. Amazing that such reckless views still exist in the face of all the evidence.

I make no apologies for this stance, and call us what you will, absolutely don't care. But at least don't call us irresponsible.

You're making the false assumption that everyone you sleep with unprotected carries life threatening diseases.

Smoking on the other hand does cause life threatening diseases which can't be argued and drinking while legal is as life threatening as smoking when done in excess!

Comparing the two things was simply to make a point that unprotected sex while risky isn't the life threatening pass time half the people on this site would have you think.

I don't condone unprotected sex with random strangers as a lifestyle choice but it's everyone's choice when entering into this lifestyle how they choose to proceed.

Just to add, we don't practice bareback ourselves with strangers, the only time we have is with a long term partner we were seeing.

The point I was trying to make was that it's upto the people involved how they carry on within this lifestyle. Just as smoking is a lifestyle choice, people know the risks yet still do it, again neither of us two do as the risks are too great for us

The problem with it as a metaphor is that you are comparing one emotive subject (barebacking) with another emotive subject (speeding), both subjects that stir up the forums.

It would be really good if we could have a discussion on this that used real data.

Doing 120mph on the M1 in the middle of the night when the road is quiet is probably safer than walking upstairs. Doing it southbound past Luton at 10.00 am on a Monday morning is a hell of a lot more dangerous than shagging someone bareback in a swingers club.
