Yes there is a lesser risk and I've done the research and had the conversations with health professionals. Still people will come and say I'm wrong but hey ho.

Assuming you have no mouth ulcers/cuts in mouth etc the risk of transmission of STIs through oral sex is much less.

Have a look at the pregnancy rates with various forms of contraception and condoms, whilst good and certainly better then not, have a not insignificant failure rate

Oral sex is massively lower a risk vs unprotected anal sex for example, thought to be due to the hydrochloric acid in your stomach being quite a good disinfectant

There is no such thing as 'safe' sex...only safer. Everyone in this lifestyle will assess how much risk they choose to take and so long as their risks match up with those they are meeting then so be it. If you prefer to use condoms and dental dams for oral then that is your choice and you need to meet people who do the same. I however have decided that the risk from oral sex is low enough for me to do this unprotected...the GUM Clinic I go to are aware of this as I tell them when I go for testing and they agree the risk is lower, but they do take throat swabs each time.

Take the risks you choose to take and avoid those who you think behave in ways that are too risky for you. Thing is you'll never really know what people do behind closed doors so you just have to protect yourself as you see fit. For me that is condoms for penetrative sex.

sex with a condom still carries risk, just less. Its not just sperm and bodily fluids that transmit infection. Skin to skin contact does to!

I sometimes get the feeling that theres a lot of naive people about that think a condom protects you from everything..... it doesn't.

unless it had been autoclaved it would not be sterile just carry less risk of infection than if it had not been done. there is a situation where fluid from one parter could travel down the dildo and enter the other causing a sti infection. a low risk but a risk none the less but this is a risk you have chosen to accept given the evidence available to you and you own knowledge of the risks. which is exactly the same risk assessment people who have unprotected oral sex do !!
