Personally I like the more unusual men's colognes such as No88 by Czech & Speake of Jermyn Street.

The one that most ladies comment on is Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch.

I frequently get asked what it is.

But one mans nectar is another mans poison, we are attracted to certain kinds of smells. Citrus or musk / woody scents seem to dominate the men's market.

Creed - Himalaya has hints of sandle wood. I get asked quite a lot about that one.

You are very right, mass produced rubbish with little substance has dominated the market and the citrus note is so over used.

I like colognes with pedigree, some substance and history.
