They are designed to be a room odouriser, left in a warm spot with the lid off to evaporate and fill the room. But most hold them under the nose and sniff.

The liquid can burn if it touches the skin. So be very careful. And don't use without checking with everyone present. They give me a sick thumping headache so anyone using them near me would not be popular! But they can have potentially life threatening side effects on a few people.

As above re safeguards.

They come in small glass bottles and you sniff them.

There are loads of different brands but most have the same ingredients.

A popular misconception is that they are Amyl or isobutyl nitrate, but they aren't. They're nitrites.

I've always found Amyl nitrite (the original) to be the best, but it's harder to get these days

They were originally used for cleaning vinyl records that's why you tend to see them in the old record shops.

A note on legality...

They are legal to possess. Some have been banned, such as the original chemical, amyl nitrite, and it is not legal to supply them.

Good quality poppers are less likely to cause a headache or burning of the skin, but the ones now available in the UK are rubbish - whatever chemical hasn't been banned yet. Be careful what you buy and where from; there is a market for counterfeit poppers and goodness only knows what you're buying then!

However, most men do struggle to get and remain hard when they are using poppers.

Using poppers is more akin to sniffing glue or solvents for the rush than using ketamine.

Some people use them because it makes anal easier and not for the "awesome sex". They can make orgasm a bit more intense but they aren't mind blowing.

Even the ignorant, uninformed and those harbouring their own major issues are entitled to an opinion. Mine is based on experience. I have great sex, sometimes with poppers, although they're much weaker than they used to be nowadays.

At a club one time we were in a large open room with quite a few people playing on one bed, initiated by us. Some guy joins in and half way through grabs a bottle of poppers and proceeds to shove it under peoples noses. Complete idiot - in retrospect we should have stopped play and asked him to leave, and after reading the health warnings above I think he acted totally irresponsible. If you want to do something fine - but don't push it onto others

Aside from that, had one experience and we didn't like it.
