The Naughty Step (aka Northampton)

I am trying to take the first steps in admitting and dealing with sex addiction, but all resources seem to be leading back to religion which is not a path I want to take. Does anyone have any experience or advise to share?

"I've been effected by it for a long time but only recently realised the extent of the problem"

Recognising there is a problem is a good start. Any addiction can be problematic so you need to seek professional anti-addiction advice. Where from I have no idea but google is your friend. Professionals might want evidence, eg. a diary?

What makes you think you have a sex addiction???

No addiction is good and will ultimately cause you great pain in your life, unless you seek professional help.

With all addictions finally admitting that you have a problem is the first big step. Good luck with that

I am similarly "afflicted" but do not consider it to be a problem or a condition, just normal sexual behaviour and you should not be concerned as I'm almost twice your age!

I am secretive about sex

It has take precedence over education, exams and work

I have tried to stop and failed several times

Relationships have suffered

Takes up any spare time I have

I'm still not sure why you think you are an addict rather than just enjoy!

When I realised I may have had a sex addiction I tried to put myself of a sort of sex ban, it was like stopping smoking, very difficult to refuse it. I lasted a whole 7 weeks which Iam still very proud of when I met my Mr 2 blues, once in an understanding relationship I can try to control it as he helps me. Try the ban, it certainly helped me x

I'm calling it. I'm saying what loads of people think.

You do not have a sex addiction..! You love sex, we all love sex! You love porn yada yada. It's just society's influence telling you because you love sex it has to be labelled as an addiction. Trust me you could be a gambler, a drug user or something else but sex addiction doesn't need to be diagnosed and you certainly don't need a therapist telling you your abnormal for loving sex!

Do not go to the doctors because before you know it you will believe your messed up in the head for loving sex and porn! NEWSFLASH.. all us men think about is the next thing to bone or shake at lol..!

As long as your addiction is telling you to bone animals or some weird stuff like that then there just isn't a problem! Crack on, happy swinging lol

I'm off to bed now but as a recovering sex addict I can tell you there are places you can get help... I've finally due to a good friend got control now but it's always a struggle..

I'll pm some links tmw or feel free to ask me stuff.. it's no joke when you would rather have sex than do anything else.

Eat corflakes.

Any time I do my libido is lowered to such an extent that not only do I not think about sex - having sex, even wanking seems a chore! Hence, I stopped eating cornflakes 15 yrs ago, and have only had a bowl occasionally since.

Everyone will know this but before they became a staple for breakfast, they were invented by the psychologist Dr Kellogg, as a deterrant against sins of the flesh.

And I doubt you have an addiction - just guilt that you should be doing more with your life thats actually productive. Could be worse - you could be watching JC all day

The problem with sexual addiction is that so many don't take it seriously... but it can devastate lives...

Have you considered sexaholics anonymous? It's a 10 step programme just like Alcoholics Anon. I'm an atheist so yes I agree it can be a tad difficult as it does seem a bit religious but I just ignored that fact but considered the rest of the advice etc. it makes you look at yourself properly which is useful.

Good luck.

"OP did you get help and has your condition improved?"

I wouldn't say I'm cured or that I ever found any help, but I'm managing to balance it better. Partly thanks to having a bit of a blow out so to speak every 3 months or so. It almost allows me to reset if that makes sense.

The last one was a private party where I took part in mfm, DVP, DP and watched a lot of action

I can relate very much with this. And a blow out helps. Calms things down a little. I have tried medication and instead of decreasing my sex drive it made being able to orgasm all but impossible when I had sex. So in turn made things worse.

I have been living with it for years and I have good times and bad times x

Is there a root cause to your circumstances?

I feel like you, I often feel I have an addiction to sex, it started with zero sex in my relationship, but has manifested itself differently over time.

I can relate a lot of my drive to stress, I find sex a great stress reliever and seek it out more when stressed.

It interferes with my business, personal life and relationships. As a stress reliever it generates more stress too, so a bit of a vicious circle.

Good luck with finding help, I have tried but not succeeded in finding appropriate help as yet.

I looked for a sex addiction clinic, but that was only to try and fuck potential women. Does that make me a sex addict..

There was an article published in the good man project yesterday about this topic. I think it was entitled "sex addict or high libido - how to tell the difference". Would recommend reading it.

Reasonable article, but it is open to interpretation a little
