I know its all just banter but sometimes people use the forums to look for potential meets or to find information on different things!!! But it annoys me when people just constantly want to be smart about things!!!

eg: someone writes about watersports to which they get a reply i love jet skis or yeh speed boats are great fun!!!

Seen one earlier im looking for a cougar to which the reply was have you tried the zoo!! very witty as it is they have all been used time and time again and can be off putting for a first time poster!!! If your jokes are that good book a venue and ill pay for a ticket other than that best kept to yourself!!!

If people cannot look beyond the banter then what is the point of them coming into the forum.

Should the forum just be a dull place for those asking advice? Should the forum be a cringe-worthy place full of moans/whines? Or should the forum be used by all sorts of people each in their own manner, albeit not breaking the rules?

If you do find posts you don't like, or rather the poster's attitude, then use that to filter who you'd like to meet, or not as the case may be.

People who banter in the forum... I lub ya and long may it continue

The problem is that the banter ends up hijacking the thread .

The op of the original thread is left perplexed and if it's their first post it's often their last .

So we get left with the same tired and stale jokes ......

As this is clearly aimed at me as I made the zoo comment can I just say, it was just a tongue in cheek light hearted comment. I intended no harm and didn't break any forum rules.

I don't consider myself smart or a great wit, but I do think that the forums are a better place for the banter. It's certainly more interesting then the constant "I can't get a meet", "why don't people reply" and "snog, fuck or pass threads".

Anyway, I've apologised to the OP on the couget thread in case I caused any offence and I will try to refrain from showing any form of humour or personality going forward on the forum for fear of upsetting people

I love humor. Even old, overly done humor is better than trying to be serious all the time. Life is too short to not try to be funny.

What we need is a thread about the ridiculous over-use of exclamation points to indicate emphasis. Now that's truly annoying

I (try to) make whitty comments or say things for a laugh, some people dont like it, but hey I don't really care aslong as it amuses me, I like to wind up people and annoy, and knowing that it actually does wind people up then il do it even more, its good to have a sense of humour because god knows you need one on here haha

I know what the op means - nobody loves a smartarse, but there's also the fact that you can't tell who's being serious or not on here sometimes. It can be hard to gauge...,but I'd rather have a laugh than not

What abuse and virtual vilification? I don't see any in this thread, if you have had PMs that are abusive or consider specific posts on the thread abusive then report them. The OP has said he was using your comment as an example and not specifically aiming anything at you, you maybe need to cultivate a thicker skin.

I see what the OP is getting at, it may be off putting to newbies - I've been guilty of posting wisecracks myself but if it's a new poster I tend to hold back or put my wisecrack in and also address the gist of the thread (no idea whether your response was to a newbie as haven't read that thread)

Don't stop posting cos you feel a bit miffed, but if you feel a few lines on t'interweb abuses and vilifies you then maybe you need to step back a bit

I agree in part OP, it can be irritating.

I agree that banter is good but using the same kind of lines and quips isn't funny. And it does seem to happen a lot.

But on the flip side it's not a serious forum, it's good to be lighthearted at times.

I personally just scroll down those posts and don't read them.

I have a perfectly thick skin and know how the forum works, you haven't seen the pm's I've received, but to be called a stupid ugly fat c word is uncalled for because of a joke and that wasn't even the worst of it.

Also youre not me and I do feel the OP had singled out my post specifically and had a dig at me personally in this thread not to mention what was said on the other thread.

So no on this occasion I won't grow a thicker skin and I have reported messages & posts. Oh and on taking a step back...I will be because I only come on here for a laugh & a bit of banter but as I can no longer do that for want of getting insulted & singled out it's really not worth it.

I love the way first time posters are all apologetic and timid, like the internet will eat them for expressing an opinion.

If a bad joke, or tongue in cheek comment scares people away I'd hate to see what they were like in real life.

It comes down to confidence, and conviction. Do you have it? Great, stick to your guns. Don't have it? Tough.

Have a bit of dignity and stop with the paranoia; you're making yourself look a bit silly if the truth be told.

Too many try-hards, trolls, smart arses and twits infiltrate all too often.
