Profile Cloning/copying

I recently discovered something by accident and wondered if any of the members were aware this happened. There are a number of sex dating sites out there, including one advertised on fab s while back called benaughty.com

what I discovered is that the parent company of this site, which owns about 5 other similar sites, posts single female profiles on all it's sites even if you only join one. Fine if you want more guys yo see your profile, but not sure if you can access the profiles on the other sites.

Furthermore, this company advertises to sell dating sites which can use it's 'platform' ie it's client database, considerably adding to the number of sites a profile can be copied onto.

Surely this can't be allowed without the consent of the person setting up the profile. Signing up to one site could have your pic plastered over a dozen or more sites without your knowledge or consent, not to mention the fact you can't access these profiles.

How fo the members here feel about it?

I trust Sj-Mark they don't hide away, they care about their members and do a fabulous job with only the support money which is totally voluntary. I'm sure the op meant the company who own the other website.

Just to clarify. The sites in question have nothing to do with fab, which has been a pretty good site to be a member of. All I'll say is that you should be wary of any sex date sites in the easydate ltd and white label dating affiliate network.

I beleive that AFF do this too (indeed maybe a part of benaughty)

What they also do is use your pictures to sell and promote their web sites.

This happened to a friend of mine, even when she had left AFF they were still using her pics!! It is though, in their terms and conditions apparently.

I may remember seeing another post about a similar issue pointed at Fabs and the answer was your safe, no profiles are shared, nor pictures used by the site.

This is common practice with a number of larger web dating sites, such as AFF or WhiteLabel. They have one basic platform, which is then simply restyled to reach many different niche markets.

There was a poster put up on some railing next to a roundabout in my town advertising a "no strings attached" dating site. When I looked at it, I realised quite quickly it was related to a different names site which I had been a member of in the past and which had repeatedly billed me after I thought I had cancelled it! Needless to say I didn't join!

Unfortunately when signing up to these sites, we often click the tick box to say "I have read and understood the T&Cs" without actually reading them. Somewhere in many of them you will find a clause which gives the owners of the site the right to use anything you submit to the site (such as pictures or profile text) in perpetuity as they see fit - including, but not limited to sharing them with other web sites administered by them. Worse, they can use them in their advertising, so the next mailshot you receive could have your pic plastered across it!

I've learned to be careful what I submit to a site until I understand their business model - I know it could change at any time, but generally you can get a feel for which sites are simply there to extract every penny from your participation, and those which are less ambitious about their income stream!

As a suggestion on how you can remove your pics from their site, how about you sign up with a new profile (don't upload pics), and report the other profile as a fake? Tell them you will be able to prove you own the pics and that you didn't give permission for them to be used, and that should they not comply with your request to remove them you will commence legal proceedings against them for using your pic without permission. You may have to use a different email address so that it does appear that you aren't related to the original profile...

There is a swinging website that uses this idea, it works in that there is one database shared between various gateway websites, the idea being that they get more members this way and therefore each member should have greater success in finding someone who they would like to meet. BUT there is a problem with this, usually each gateway website will have a niche idea like BBW, bi-sexual swingers etc..So we found that members, who where say looking for BBW swingers, wanted to know why everyone on the database was not a BBW or looking for BBW!

Usually they are not selling your profile they are just using it on their other sites, this allows them to claim more mebers of each individual site, when you sign up for ANY swingers or dating site make sutre you read the t&c's to see what they will be doing with your data!

Basically, what ya gunna do about it if you find your profile on one of these sites.your not gunna go to a solicitor or try to take them to court about it. Well are ya. Some wont want people knowing your on such sites in the 1st place. Its either bordering on illegal or it is illegal. Just the same as alot of other things that are bordering on being illegal in this world.

Anybody copies MY profile, I will sue them for every penny, straight to my solicitor for advice at least.

The worst thing I find is sites trying to con you into signing up. Some swinging websites and vanilla websites use some very dubious tactics. What they do is let you sign up for free but then tell you if you want to reply to messages or message people you have to pay and become a full member. Now this is fair enough however what they do is while you are a free member they send automated messages fooling you into thinking people are interested in you. Then when you pay to sign up and reply to the messages you never get a reply back.
