I wink at people, to let them know I have viewed their profile, for free members it is the only way they would know.

A wink is an ice breaker and a sign of interest, we live in a global village, and to many distance isn't an issue.

if a profile says looking for more than a quick meet, ie infers friendship or maybe a relationship, distance wouldn't be an issue.

We get winks and friend requests from the US. It's no biggie perhaps a note against their profile if you are ever in their neck of the woods.

Be flattered most people moan if they don't get any attention.
