my terrapins would be ok eating meat, sometimes things like catfood(though thats pretty messy), I never tried meat like ham etc, but its cheap enough until u get proper food.

get to a pet shop and see what terrapin food they have

pretty important, in time they will need a big heated tank, terrapins should be able to grow to around 25cm...the ones u commonly see are stunted

a hot lamp and a rock to bask in should be available at some point too

make sure the water gets cleaned possibly almost daily, and wash hands well as they carry salmonella

*I'm no expert but i did have them, I never kept them properly though but had friends who had them for years, and they can live for 20+ years

Are you planning on keeping them? Could be worth advertising as found. They could have been stolen then the thieves figured they were too much hassle to look after so dumped them.

U can put as much water as u want asking as they can get on to some sort of plat form. One plat form with a heat light to bask in an another if they just feel like hanging out on. U will notice they like to dive off the rock so be careful not to have anything under the water were they jump. As hitting there she'll hard causes trauma an health issues. U must clean the water every week due to pee an poop as they drink the water. Any food not eaten is to b taken back out not left. If they are small to begin with don't over feed as the shell grows into a pyramid otherwise. Don't put the light to close to the water as splashes can hit the bulb an cause to break. They need UVB from a blue light like a salon light. U can buy these from any pet store. They can get abit aggressive with one another so a big enough tank is needed. Make sure u wash ur hands b4 an after handling as they can cause salmonella. Food u can give just about anything. Blood worms mine loved only couple times a week with vegetables an some terrapin food. Don't give them cat food or Ice burg lettuce as these have an affect on there kidneys an may cause harm. Water temp should be at 16 I think. U can try putting a cleaning fish in there with them they will b intrigued but will soon get bored. Hope helps I've had many exotic animals

And if they turn out to be yellow belly turtles like mine I'd either buy a bigger tank or donate to the zoo as they grow to the size of a dinner plate an can live well over 30 odd years so thinking of the the well being of the animals it's only the right thing to give them the life they deserve an not to be crammed into a tank

pets stores don't tell u how much work is involved when buying them. People should really read up on them b4 buying.

My guess is they have been stolen, due to the price of tortoise's, some dumb arsed yobos, steal them thinking they are valuable, its only when they try to get rid of them , they find out what they really are, so just dump them , usualy in the nearest pond or river.

Incidently, before it was illegal to import them, I was involved with the seizure of 7000, I could have made a fortune!!!!!

many moons ago in my flower shop I made a lake, waterfall and fountain, put 10 terrapins in, lots of goldfish, kids loved it and my window display was very popular, mothers day was soo busy, the bank of plants around the pond looked great, sold out, delivered most of them, then the phone calls started, " I have a baby tortoise in my plant! the ikkle buggers had all climbed into the plants
