so, what would an ideal first message for you to receive be?

That's a good question. Me, I'm cool with a simple hello. You know, conversation starter type things. Cause that's kind of the goal, to have a conversation. Ive been curious about that as well, especially for women.

"Hello *insert names*.." Suggest the person might actually be writing to US.

I nice informative self-introduction followed by some questions that are not already answered on our profile would suggest they have actually read our profile and might actually be interested in US.

There is nothing wrong in our view with "Please check out my profile" if its a good one.

That should form the basis of a conversation that we can interact with and therefor we will.

Much less than that suggests to us that the person really can't be bothered to put a small amount of effort into it, so what use would they be?

My approach may be rather too formal for alot of people but I approach it in the same way I would when writing a letter of application to a job ad. - Compliment them on the pics and the write ups, find some common areas on your profiles' interests. This all shows that you have read the profile and tailored your response rather than cut and pasted previous replies. In the end, ask for a meet. Suggets a social deink at a neutral location and pin a face pic to your message.

just be yourself, if you are yourself and say what you feel at the time to each person then the one who replies to you, you are more likely to connect with as your not forcing conversation.
