Club F in the newspapers

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links but basically a school has been built near an established sex club. Cue outrage.

To be fair I'm not sure it's the best place for the school which will no doubt be trying to engage the community and could occasionally be open when the club is too but either help the club to move or put the school elsewhere.

i was told about the article about an hour ago...

i think they will try and use the school as an excuse, but it is really a red herring because unless the club is open at the same time as the school... they are not overlapping...

when schools are open after 8pm or at the weekends then cool.... if not then tough

Clubs aren't allowed to be opened within certain distances of clubs, so it seems bad planning to do it the other way around. X

A bet there is less disturbance as a club than there was when it was a pub.

I think the issue is the club is licensed as a hotel, so in a grey area and might not have flagged up with the planners as a sex club issue.

Also schools do often open their doors for various community groups (drama club might hire the stage etc) and the club opens at 8pm.

I kinda agree that club f would be better tucked away on an industrial estate as a designated sex on premises venue but would the council grant such a licence?

They did in Newcastle where there is a gay sauna.

Problem is that some customers of ClubF will now be wary of going.

I know that each time we've parked in the new car park, (which is near residents house) we've felt watched by all the residents ! Uncomfortable for sure.

Perhaps the owners of the club should go to the locals and say;

"Ok we're selling the club, we've had 5 offers which do you prefer it to be;

1, A Halfway house for ex-offenders

2, A Hells Angels club house

3, A BNP district office

4, Immigrant temporary housing

5, A drug rehabilitation centre

or we could leave it as it is"

ok, I don't often post here, but am going to today.

Our stance has ALWAYS been to be discrete, to protect our members, not to raise our heads above the parapet.

Alot goes on behind the scenes that you will be unaware of.

The parking has been a problem with the residents and the police, yes the police have secured us parking 200 yards from the venue and you don't have to walk past houses.

If people feel uncomfortable they should report to the police, which household is doing that and they WILL do something. Dont be offended and say nothing.

The people that raised their concerns with the papers are the ones that have always caused the problems for me/us/you.

The rest of the residents we work with to alleviate their problems and to do that we ask the co-operation of our members. And without exception our members have co-operated and in the main they have done it cheerfully even though its a pain.

But thats swingers for you, they are amenable, reasonable and damned decent people. Thats why we love the club, work hard for it and love the people.

I have taken legal advice from the best lawyers around.

Let me emphasise this, we are doing nothing illegal.

We conform to all legislative requirements on businesses (and it costs a fortune),

We have planning permission, and this planning permission means that we can open when we do and it cannot be taken away just because the big school moves in. Its proximity is maybe unfortunate (though there are 2 other schools in the very nearby area) but we have been here for alot longer than them.

Hang in there, we are going to and so I hope do you guys.

If you read the the paper its a whole non story anyway.. Typical headline grabbing..Whats todays front page is tomorrows chip paper

Definitely well said Sue.....according to the article both the police and the council knows the club is there (& have done for years) and neither have any issues. All licences have been granted where necessary and no-one is doing anything illegal. The main issue is small mindedness. Keep up the good work ....we're behind you all the way

I know you guys have done your upmost for the place and any issues you have with the locals.... long may it continue and i would advise anyone who was thinking of going to the club not to be discouraged and to give it a chance...

so, lets get this right, Club F opened around 2003, playing fields/recreation fields opposite, and whats next door and in fact all the way down the street, .....Fast Food outlets, yep, a whole street of them, so where does Durham County Council build a new academy, thats right oposite an established club and in the same street only a few metres away from a street full of fast food outlets,

It was only a couple of years ago that councils were told not to allow any more trading licences to fast food/take aways in the same vacinity of School!

now there is an uproar because someone thinks a Club, which has approval from planning, should be closed down and moved,

Who's the idiots that allowed planning for the Academy to be built in the first place ...

Next there will be an outcry from the Academy because the pupils are all eating Junk Food, chips and Pizza's and then they will try to move those on too !

Incidently, there is also a Social club directly opposite the Academy, so in my opinion, the Academy should never have been built here in the first place.

There was plenty of other brownfield sites that could have been used.

I see no prob with a swing club being near a school not as if the kids are going to be let in and if there parents are looking to enjoy abit more fun in there likes its ideal for them we are swingers after all not a bunch of people that go out looking to do things that put kids or other people in the area at risk

The school is not the issue, read the story myself, it's the same old ppl moaning again since it first opened and now the feel they have more ammunition ie the school to help fight there corner, had it been an issue I for 1 think planners would have rejected it on the grounds it was next to a adult club, that has past all its planning applications so they knew they could not have it closed down, and if it was a big issue I'm sure the council would have contacted the owners of the club who ever they are to talk about the issue

They are only getting round the planning stage because of them renting rooms out. What would happen if a person tried booking a room on the phone for the family don't think it would happen would it

Are you a lawyer? Do you know about our planning permission? We are not 'getting around' anything with the place, we abide by the law and we try to work with the residents.

You are right when you say we would not rent a room to a family though, its an adult only venue.

Are you a lawyer? Do you know about our planning permission? We are not 'getting around' anything with the place, we abide by the law and we try to work with the residents.

Read the article tonight after being told about it. Also read the reader feedback and they all come down on the side of the club, which is quite refreshing (or maybe all the people who commented are swingers lol).

At the end of the day this all comes down to nimby'ism and that's never a good argument to get something you don't want banned.
