There was a program on Radio 4 yesterday about the Northern Soul scene in Japan! Very interesting documentary. You can catch up on BBC's iPlayer.

Cheers I will watch that for sure, I've seen some you tube posts on Northern Soul from Japan

There was a group of 12plus soulies who had travelled to Blackpool from Italy for the all-nighter and I've been to northern soul events in Europe so there is a scene out there you just have to look

You cant beat a bit of northern.Anyone who hears it and doesn't want to move their feet is dead!! lol

Have fond memories of the scooter rallies and northern doos back in the 80s.Still attend the odd event now and again

I love the music, but a lot of clubs I went to in the 80s and 90s were full of elitist snobs and people too up their own arse. Thought the Northern soul scene was supposed to be friendly and welcoming?

I've never had anything other than top nights at Northern Soul events.

Took a mate to his first all nighter last night and he was amazed at the friendliness

Yep, the first track played was The Sherries "Put Your Lovin Arms Around Me"

Was there the night it closed 19th Sept 1981, still got the badge on my "colours" t-shirt, (fits me like a crop top now) the atmosphere in Mr M`s was electric. The usual last track of "The Night" was played FIVE times in a row, people were sweaty, wide-eyed, chewing like a mad rabbit (courtesy of blueys, £5 wraps, chalkies and various other chemical stimulants), crying, hugging, shaking hands but all in agreement that "Time had passed you by".

As you walked out of the double doors into the harsh morning light (damn you 8 o`clock) the thought on your mind was "Long After Tonight Is All Over, I`m On My Way to where the Moonlight Music And You let me say I Just Kept On Dancing"

minus the drugs it pretty much summed up last night

everyone at the all nighter last night was fatter and older but when they were out on the floor you can tell that in there mind they were 20yo again

we entered blackpool tower ballroom at 10pm and outside the world was crazy, traffic jams along the golden mile, d*unks, winos, thousands of people cramming the streets and bars

walked out at 7.05am this morning and the sun hit us like a rabbit caught in the headlights

cant wait for the next one

Looks to be like a good programme on BBC2 this Wednesday (the 25th) at 10.00pm. The Culture Show - Northern Soul; Keep The Faith, presented by Paul Mason.

Look at the goldsoul events they are pretty good with all-nighters weekenders etc would be very surprised if you didn't have a top night out.

I am not accepting that young lady,

I thought some of the people at blackpool were going to keel over from dancing to much and being unfit and they survived(apart from the 2 that didn't) but we wont worry about that
