A well discussed subject that comes up at least once a month.

If you click on the SEARCH button here in the forums you will find a further 19 threads on this subject showing hundreds of different peoples views on the subject both for and against.

The reason for a new thread is simple, it is a subject that does have a lot of views and does need airing now and again.

For those of you who are bored with it, thanks for stopping by but there are lots more threads that will interest you here in the forums and you can just ignore this one

I have always been happy to get winks, they show me someone is interested and if we feel the same after looking at thier profile we wink them back and await a proper mail from them.

Many people hate them but some like them because if your not interested you simply ignore them which sends the same message back to the person basically saying "thanks but no thanks" but without the effort or the stigma attached to sending negative mails and without the stigma of recieving negative mails. They are a quick and easy way of showing interest or no interest.

What I DON'T like about winks is when we get them from people who have either no information in thier profile or worse no pictures.

These we ignore and the sender is automatically given the message that we are not interested, the problem is that had we seen photographs we might have been interested but personally we don't do blind dates and we are certainly not going to waste thier time or build up thier hopes by winking back and implying that we are interested when in truth we simply don't know if we would like to know more about them or not.

So despite all the support I have previously had for winks I do believe that if you are going to use them you should make sure there is enough information and pictures to allow the recipitent to be able to make a descision.

All the moaning you've done about repeat threads, and how search should be used, and now you start a new one about winks.

I don't mind winks, although rarely wink myself, can't help winking those that have a rant about them though.

Yes I posted about repeat threads and had some very interesting responses, so interesting that as I stated then, I was converted and saw the error in my opinion and the reason why they are there is a good side to them.

I was wrong about repeat threads and frivolous threads and openly admitted it then as I do now.

During the last few days I have been actively trying to improve the way I post in the forums but can understand that some people will never accept the changes and only remember the past.

Your never cured as an alcoholic you simply remain a recovering alcoholic and you reap what you sow springs to mind so I accept what you say.

We agree, that we use to take the line if you wink us and did not send a message then we would delete us.

Was not until i read someones profile and sent a wink. Then the person that recieved the wink pointed out that we do not like winks.

Which i was o'dear i must look like a silly cow. (LOL) So we decided to take no winks please of our profile. Its amazing how many winks we get. Still get the odd wink and when we send a reply to the winkers, we get no reply. But hay we are chilling.

I wasn't strictly serious Jed, old pal, hence the smilies, and that I made a comment on smilies also, I simply took the opportunity to take the pee a little.

I like the fact you allow your opinion to change after hearing other views, some people are way too stubborn at times to accept another way is possibly as good or even better.

Those you like are the other side of the country

RULE 2

Those you like have criteria that eliminates you from the equation

RULE 3

Those you like have Mother in Law staying the only week your going to be in that area

RULE 4 Mother in Law has gone home but now but it's the wrong time of the month

and so it goes on

i like winks i think its a nice way of showin interest without sendin a message that may get deleted so for the sensitive wee souls its a good idea!!

many of the people iv met it started with a wink! xx

They irritate because you have to delete individually. Admin should add a delete all like on friends requests.

Nope, we don't mind winks, for all the reasons above. Sometimes puzzles me when we wink back and then get no follow up message, but c'est la vie.

How about other types of "attention getters"?

A "wave".... for those who are a little more extrovert.

A "How you doin'?" (a la Joey from Friends)... for the single guys who think they are gods gift.

A "Nod"... for those that are too cool to wave or wink.

A "Coo - eee!"... for those that are a little excitable.

A "Nervous glance"... for those who are very shy.

A "Awight?"... for those who fancy themselves as a bit of a geezer.

A "Flutters eyelids"... for the flirty ladies.

Erm.... actually started this as a bit of a joke, but now thinking it aint so daft?

Once again I agree with you on the interest bit. Without being a sensitive soul,(of the sort you had in kind).

I will continue using winks on people I am interested in, they have the option of deleting or ignoring me,that is their right, if they respond, it could be the beginning of fun.

The problem with winks, who starts the conversation flowing

Previously, we've returned winks with a wink, but on several occasions they've failed to initiate correspondence, so we've followed up our wink with a mail, several times our mail has been read or deleted with no reply, so now, as stated on our profile, we no longer accept winks without a short message.
