There have been many many times on here when we exchange messages with fellow Fabs by way of introductions, both sending and receiving that messages are extremely brief. When the messages comprise of a single sentence and continue to do so, we cease the interaction. Primarily because we feel that because the messages are brief with no sentiment, we would not get on socially, regardless of the number of verifications or pictures, so there would be no point in meeting.

Often we would write a paragraph in reply to a single sentence and receive, one again, a single sentence, or indeed just a couple of words.

Is this just us, or do people generally just use and enjoy one-liners?

The worst ones are the single word replies. Yeah, no, maybe and my personal best, hehe! I just stop the conversation and block them as, as you said, i feel we wouldn't click on a social basis.

One word or short sentence replies illicit a quick end to chatting. Even worse are the one word introductory messages

Anyone who can't string a cohesive sentence together with accurate spelling....no reply from us.

We assume they are not going to be sparkling company.

We get this to it is very annoying especially when you make an effort and get a few words back in reply like yourselves we tend to cease communication after a few attempts at a conversation.

Indeed so, that's how we feel. It may however be entirely inaccurate, but at the end of the day, first impressions and all that!

I don't mind the occasional 1 liner in response to a paragraph I write but if they continued to do it, I'd assume they couldn't be bothered and stop messaging.

I have sent everything from one word introductions to several paragraphs, almost all of which are ignored. In my experience it matters not how long or short the message is. I have no idea what criteria I or my messages are judged by.

Some people decide if they read a message based on the few words/ lines they can see via their inbox. Some base this decision on your profile picture. That is what i am getting at.

People make snap judgements about everything, you have to catch their eye to get your message opened, let alone read. It happens.

I know that, I always try for a snappy title and a comment on their profile in the first line or a joke or just something to catch the eye. As a 'silver' member I can see who has looked at my profile and am always amazed that messages are deleted by the recipient without a peek at my profile. I have messages in my sent box that are five weeks old and still not been read lol. I'm used to it now but I am surprised that anyone actually ever meets from here

Although attaching a picture is all well and good, it is the words that matter.

at the end of the day. From the words we judge if we will get on with a person.

If we don't get on at a social level, then there will be no play time.

All of that is with the exclusion of clubs

I have stealth settings so I can view profiles without showing up on their 'looked at me' page, and I suspect there's a few out there that also do this. In which case they've probably looked at your profile and not wanted to take it further.

Delete your sent box periodically as checking for messages to be read will send you bonkers. Send message, then move on.

Its the same as in real life,if im chatting away asking questions encouraging a response and generally being interested in someone and all im getting back is a nod or a grunt then Ill stop talking and go find someone thats a bit more approachable and social

So how do you know you have unread messages from 5 weeks ago?

Go to your profile and select the 'privacy' link from the menu on the left. It's on there.

Because there are not many in there at the moment, I'll delete when I have to scroll a couple of times so only around eight in there at the moment.

I'll leave it so I can be seen I think, it may spark an interest if someone has noticed I looked.

When messages are short we find it difficult to gage personality and we like to click when we meet so we like to have an idea from the few messages who we're meeting.

Tho sometimes your busy and squeezing a quick perv on Fabs when you can so short and sweet has to do

As a bloke I have written longish messages to couples and they dont reply........one liners may work, tried that and of course no replys now, so I am thinking taking up drinking!!

From personal experience the length of the message is not very important. It's all about your profile, photos, who has verified you and timing. Sometimes I can send a message to a profile without a reply, and other times I send a similar medsage to the same profile and get a reply,

Personally... I find it easier in person. You'll know right away usually if you will click or not.

As someone had said, why type something up and you're ignored?... I've messaged about 6 people so far, had 3 replies

Unfortunately a lot of women/couples want guys older than 30

Its a difficult one. Some people are not very good at getting themselves across in text but are fine in person. Of course some people are just lazy or just not worth the hassle. But on the whole if a conversation degenerated into a few words of reply I'd assume it wasn't going anywhere.

A paragraph, seems a bit excessive, the most I secs is two lines, and I know this wont be popular but most if the time it's a copy and paste message that's slightly altered depending on the recipitant, and surprisingly it sometimes works

We are the same good convo is a must... I leave most of the messaging to my wife because I'm dyslexic and nearly all people judge bad spellers even tho to meet me you would never know to look at me or with the perfesion I'm in xxxx

I've done that too! They reply asking what I mean.

I agree with everyone else really. If someone can't write more than a few words I give up.

If I'm on my phone and can't leave a big reply I always explain that's why.

If I am having a conversation with someone I move it to to a telephone conversation pretty quick. I have known the most eloquent people on here but have no conversational skills in person.

As most people use their mobile phones to access the site, you don't always have time to write long messages. I know lots of people who are terrible at messages but in person are very interesting and great conversationalists. Quite a few people are Dyslexic as well.

So no. I don't stop conversing because of short messages. If I like them I move it on to a phone call.

usually you can tell if your going to 'click' or not via messages,by the way they speak/ type. There are times when a few couples have cracked us up with what they written so we know we'll probably get on if we met
