Merina coil or implant?

Just after views on which is best. Don't really know much about the implant except that it hasn't got strings, lol. Any advice would be appreciated xx

advantage of the mirena is that it lasts 5 years so I don't have to remember to keep going back to the drs..before that I had the depo injection that worked brilliantly and I didn't have periods...still do with the Mirena

have no experience of the implant though...

I would say though, if you are in doubt as to what is best for you, your GP is really the best person to discuss this with as they will be familiar with your situation.

I've got the implant and have had no problems with it. Did a bit of research into the coil and few of the ladies I spoke to said that if they were with a well endowed guy they could feel the coil hitting their uterus, ouch! Haven't had my implant changed yet, that's due later this year. Arm was sore for about 5 days after getting it put in but other than that have had no problems at all.

That's what I'm getting, flipping hurts, can't really tell that to the doc though

can't say that I have experienced that....but why could you not mention that to the dr?? It's not like they have never heard it before!

If you have a tendency towards depression then the depo injection and the implant could bring it on/make it worse from my experience.

I ended up with a regular coil not the mirena and its great! No trouble with well endowed either!

Never had the depo or implants, I had the merena coil and bled from the day they put it in untill they finally listened to me begging for it to be removed. Yet someone I know had it and her periods stopped.

It took a few months for things to settle down with the mirena coil but then no periods bingo !!!

I'm on my second mirena coil and I've never had any issues with it. no monthly visitors for the best part of 7 years now its brilliant. I've also experienced vwe men and had no pain at all. I'm extremely happy with my coil and safe in the knowledge it works 300% for me

And I've had mine 5 years due to be took out and changed which i am dreading because of the settling down period but worth it to enable 5 years of period free play xx

I have the implant. I have had it since October!

I spotted for a about 2 weeks at the beginning and then it all settles down and now I have no periods at all.

I haven't put on anymore weight since having it, unlike the pill. It's worth doing some research into it, if you have problems with bleeding at the beginning they will prescribe the progesterone pill for about a month to help settle and then all should be well.

It does make your arm a little sore for a week or so, but other than that it's fine.

Good luck and hope you find the right option for you.

Oh one other thing, if you get the implant they do numb your arm, but my advise is not to watch when they put it in lol xx

Oh great !! I had the merena coil fitted a week ago and I'm still bleeding !! Its very frustrating ! Hope it stops soon ! As I was looking forward to being one of the lucky ones that's periods stopped completely !! sorry this reply not much help to u ! obviously luck of the draw ! Something to think about when choosing though !

The consultant gynaecologist couldn't fit the Mirena as my uterus had tilted backwards due to the weight of the fibroids.

I ended up on the implant Zirodex which is "harpooned" under the skin of your stomach. It lasts three months and stops your period. The downside, it can bring on the menopause. Perfect for me as I'm in my 50s. My last implant was September and no period. Fingers crossed they don't return!
