It's an old design Chrysler V8 car engine. They used to put them in custom hot rods since late 50's. They have a nice droning sound, hence the phase "hemi drone" in Bruce's classic song "Born To Run"

Was actually at a car show today.

There was a 1983 fiesta pop parked next to a ferrari

Pointing at the fiesta i did say to my mate 'is it wrong that i am far more interested in this than what is next to it ?'

I might be wrong but I'm sure the idea of the hemi is a centre mounted crank and if you drew a circle from this it should line up with the top of the cylinders and the bottom of the crank casing to help give balance for that perfect smooth feel?

Like a Boxter engine a la Porsche , Subaru and VW.

Some Tanks have vertically opposed engines. .

If the combustion chamber was truely hemispherical it would dictate an extremely low compression ratio...unless the stroke was so over square in a slim chamber ( thus reducing the swept volume)..virtually non combustible with normal fuels and air mix.

me thinks somebody read a book once and got the chapters and words mixed up a tad.

A hemi is th convex top of the piston giving that little more compresive power than a flat piston

Nitro burning dragsters smd funny cars use billet aluminium hemi motors.. Chrysler do a 300c with a 350c hemi.
