They're just describing their general lifestyle and jobs I think. It makes a lot of people very cross when others describe themselves as 'professional' and I don't know why.

Yes, a professional cleaner is just one that gets paid for their cleaning. The word professional gets used too liberally these days. I think most mean that they actually have a job.

For us it means we take our careers seriously and inadvertently means we won't be able to meet at the drop of a hat.

I think it also does a reasonable job of filtering out some of the "fancy a shag" messages which do get sent.

Some jobs make it difficult to openly share face pics, etc. The 'we are all here for same reason' argument doesn't hold water if you run the risk of possible repercussions or action from employers, both of which could have easily happened to me in a past job (though not these days).

So sometimes I think it's people marking themselves out as extra careful and considered. Though I'm sure a lot of people in other walks of life also follow that way of doing things.

People are soon ready to wear their inverted snobbery on their sleeve, though those same people would insist they should be treated by professional doctors, dentists, or surgeons, or helped by professional lawyers etc

I think it's quite subjective.

I'd say it means doctors, teachers, solicitors ie anyone who is registered with a body.

For others it's that they work in a smart office and wear a suit.

It's never bothered me on a profile, unless that's all it says.

I have always thought it assumed a certain level of income and education. Perhaps it makes more sense to someone my age (70's) as it was better understood in the past which careers were counted as professional and we didn't have to use the word itself; we just knew.

On Fab, professional has an entirely different meaning to the real world. It's simply a code for mild snobbery on here - we will only meet people we deem to be of a certain class. Fair enough if that's what you think, that's fine, but some of the the most mind numbingy dull and stupid people as well as some really disgusting manky slobs are also professional - it's not a given that they are decent people. It does make sense that people look for others that they would be comfortable around though, so in a social meet thats fine.

It goes completely out the window in other situations though. I dont go dogging, but I can't imagine a stunner being turned away from a clandestine layby due to rocking up in a 10 year old Corsa. If you're in a club, sex is sex - you dont tend to ask someone to give you their full CV when you're being pummelled on a gangbang bed.

Professional can sometimes be used to denote the level of discretion they would like.

If they haven’t got face pics on can sometimes mean Police, Teachers, known on Local Business scene.

Could just be snobbish “we got a nice house no riff raff please”.

But that’s why clubs will always remain best places to socialise in the lifestyle, when you are down to your undies and all you have to impress is your personality it’s a leveller.
