My parents have just come back from there. They said it's a bit like Blackpool in the Sun, and you don't really wanna stay there more then 4days as there is not much in the way of culture. BUT, the nightlife is buzzing drinks are cheap they even saw a live sex show in one of the club's (no it wasn't sticky vicky lol) so if you are after a cheap and cheerful fun break then it should be a good place to go.

I loved my time in Benidorm, the right amount of cheese, fun, drink, laughing at mobility pile ups, the meatloaf tribute "Peteloaf" and the Old Town for a bit of culture, better restaurants etc etc

There still is or used to be a couple on here who lived in Benidorm. I cannot remember who they are though.

We went other week. It's a absolute s*#t hole. Drinks aren't cheap. It's too far from the airport. It's very dirty and bars are not close together like most strips.

The bay and the beach itself is lovely, but the British should apologise to the Spanish for what we have done there.

If the first thing you look for when you go abroad is a pint of guinness, the next a full english, then a roast dinner with bisto gravy and like your menus in a foreign country laminated and in pictures then you'll love it.

I think you went somewhere else mate.

Benidorm is clean. Drinks are not expensive considering what you are getting. The airport is twent five mins down the road.

Yes I give you it can be tacky and not every ones taste but the Bay is beautiful and the sand is clean.

I have different thoughts on this been about 15 times now as I have friends who live just outside. Yes it is a bit of a dump now in the new town, but the british have done that...where the previous post says pubs aren't close together sure it was beni you went ? Old town ok if you like quieter. As for culture no there isn't any in the main town bit but you only need to get on a bus 15 mins and you will find the culture 30 mins your surrounded by it. Over the years I've been going has gone down hill and I now only go for 4 nights max

I don't no wot you travel on but it takes 45 mins to get there from the airport. Drinks are expensive unless you are drinking local pints of beer. Like everyone else is saying its tacky and a dump. The beach isn't bad tho.

If your prepared for costa del blackpool then you will have a good time.

If you're hoping for much more upmarket you will be disappointed.

Its fun for what it is. And yes the Spanish should give us brits a buttkicking for spoiling their town!

Costa Blanca Spain...

25 or 45 mins from the airport? You are both right. It's about 25 by car or taxi, and around 45 by bus.

Shit hole? Yes, er I mean no, it depends which bit you go to and how you define shit hole. For me around the "British Square" late at night most certainly is. However the Levante promenade is usually spotless, and most of the main streets are well kept.

Hell hole? Yes, er I mean no, if you are not into d*unken stag and hen party's then some parts can be, however the tapas bars and restaurants in the old town are wonderful, the only surprise is how few Brits venture there.

Expensive drinks? never. if 1 euro a pint is expensive I'd love to know where it is cheaper. OK the show bars do charge more and some do serve cheap non branded drinks from branded bottles, but ask yourself, how much am I paying for the entertainment? NOTHING. The only way the bars can pay the acts is from the money taken over the bar. We saw a pretty awful soul singer, followed by a decent comedian, and later a good Shawaddywaddy tribute, 3 rounds of drinks total 21 euro (18 quid) with no entry charge for 2 people. Try doing that in the UK.

I've been going to Benidorm on and off for over 40 years and have seen many changes, some for better some for worse, but Benidorm does exactly what it says on the tin, it just depends which tin you open.

Fair point, but one thing I've noticed over the years is that the Spanish are slowly taking the town back, especially in the low season months.

I haven't been since I was 18, I don't remember it being dirty. The beach has always been nice. I used to be able to see the fish swimming around my feet.

If you want a bit of culture and have a car then take a trip to guadalest. Its a couple of hours out but well worth it x

The last comment pretty much sums up the ignorance about Benidorm in the UK.

While I would agree that the area including Calle Girona, Calle Lepanto and a few streets around them tends to be stag and hen night grand central and a few bars on the Levante promenade can be a similar in the afternoons, the rest of Benidorm couldn't be more different.

Calle San Miguel in the old town has some of the best rated tapas bars in the whole of Spain (and not a 20 odd year old Brit on the lash in sight) Believe it or not, more Spanish pensioners go to Benidorm than young Brits, and a fair few British pensioners as well (hence the popularity of the "Benidorm Buggy") OK some of the older Brits could be described as pensioners behaving badly, and the nickname "Bellydorm" sometimes has a ring of truth about it (I knew she was a posh girl coz her ta'oohs were spelt right ) but even most of those tend to stick around the (these days shrinking) Brit area.

To see a very different Benidorm try staying at the Poniente side or even down at La Cala. Use the bars and restaurants in the old town and do not venture beyond the Hotel Madeira Centre.

I think you will come back with a very different opinion.

are you sure it was benidorm, that description could not be further from reality.

we've been the last four years, going back this year.

we stick to the old town, plenty of good bars, cheap drink, good restaurants, and an absolutely cracking beach.

it's spotlessly clean,in fact it's cleaned from top to bottom every single day.

i have no idea where you were, but from your description,it wasn't benidorm.

November for us every time, LOVE IT !!! great place for a lads break. A good drink is around a similar price to here but plenty have offers on & can be easily found as cheap as a euro a pint. Gets a bit wild with youngens during the summer months but these can easily avoided as there is plenty of entertainment to choose from on an evening. We find it very clean, cheap & value for money with a fantastic beach. Would recommend November fiesta if looking for a good lads break & march fiesta isn't as busy but worth a look. cheers rich n berni
