I know this is something that scares alot of people but I was wondering how many of us actually go, I (jon) went to our local one today it only runs on a monday an the girl running is said it may stop due to not enough people using it ( I was her only visitor today!). We went to chameleons on saturday and noticed they had started having a clinic there. We thought that was a great idea what do you all think about testing etc. Oh and I know there will be people that say they dont need to be tested as they dont do bareback but there are other ways to catch s.t'ds I was advised today to use a barrier during oral sex and given one to try!

We've been given the same advice at a clinic about using protection for oral but to be honest the thought of using a dental dam or condom for oral is quite offputting.

Has anyone experience of catching a STI from oral?

Apparently herpes is on the increase and that can easily be passed on orally and yeah the dam looks very off putting cling film was also recommended

i go every 6 months or after a burst condom - tho i do prefer oral without using them. always have mouth and throat swabbed to and if i don't like the look of the cock i use a condom or just don't do it

i've had very similar expereince as Stunna, mine wasnt a good meet and the guy took his profile off fab after id kicked him out my flat.....

we have to look after ourselves and if we choose a lifestyle such as this then we are responsible to ensure that all meets we have our safe and that nothing is passed on....

I got ever 3months to get checked out, I actually got the last dcotor saying she wished more people were as regular getting checked. I find it really friendly (tis sandyford i go to too) i always use condoms but still get checked. for my own peace of mind. Also i recently had a meet on here accuse me of passing something on to him even although we used condoms and they never burst & when i went along the doctor explained to me what he had was cause he was cleaning himself probably after going to gym!! I was quickly messaging him to explain when i never even got a sorry or nothing x

Get regular tests, have regular smears, regular check ups at dentist and give/donate blood 3 times a year. Giving blood is a good way of being tested gets screened for everything. Stds on increase in middle aged group. Rather be safe and healty.

We don't play with lots of people nowadays so tend to just visit the clinic after each meet, whether that be 3 times a year or 10 times a year.

That may sound excessive to some but we would never dream of meeting anyone without knowing we were both clear at the time.

Every 3 months (you never know, when you've been to a club or party or two) just to keep "the gap" closed.

Some play often, some less frequently - BUT in an unlikely event, I wouldn't want to be thinking "right, who to contact inthe last 6 months...", could be nerve wrackign enough with 3 (busy) months.

Touch wood I've never had to make that call - plus, FREE CONDOMS! (come on, we all feel the credit crunch!)

Don't be fooled people, some believe only those that go are the ones that need to ie have got something. We owe it to ourselves (andour playmates) to be as healthy and safe as possible.

not sure they would screen donated blood for sti's ????? how would that work ...i know they test immediately for iron content but ??????

Finger prick is for iron. Donate a pint of blood which is labeled got reference number on it. Gets screened for everything. And you have to fill a form in every time you go.

Just had a full MOT and liked how they gave me the swabs to go behind the screen and take my own samples. And also really discreet about getting the results to you.

If anyone was nervous about it Id really recommend them to just go ahead and do it...

I believe an outright refused to cover isn't legal but loading the premium (to the point of unaffordability) based on actuarial advice is still OK.

I try to go every 6 months when I am sexually active, if I have received anal(once in GOD knows how many years lol) then I will go after the window period and have the H.I.V. test. At our city clinic for gay/bi men, they offer the works if you haven't been for a wee while and as a retired nurse I do pass on little safe sex tips to my contacts. You know who you are LOL.

I've been going since I was 15 in 1985 & the clinics are TOTALLY changed from the old V.D clinics of old.

I suggest we owe it to ourselves, our families and each play-mate to be responsible for our own sexual health.

I heard of a lady who contracted gonorhea of the throat, easily treatable she was told, just means had to use condoms for oral if she's unsure of the guy.

It might sound contentuous, but protection or otherwise for whatever reason, I think testing is a non-negotiable and HAS to be done (not that am suggesting choosing between using protection and getting tested... I hope that makes sense).

hiya! when we first started swinging we said we'd get checked so we knew we were clean so to speak. Well it took me (mandy) nearly 9mths to get myself there. Chicken i know lol

I thought it wise when asked about sexual partners that i be honest. Well i felt so embarrast. Id had more play bubbies than id had in the whole of my preswinging days.........

I explained that we were swingers and that we went to clubs. They advised that i had every test done, as this was my first visit. Yes those 2/3wks felt like hell on earth worrying about what i could or couldnt have. Peace of mind is a very nice thing. And with that thought we now go every 3mths. And will carry on being tested until we hang up our swinging heels........

I see that there seems to be a difference with results from one place to the next we get our results back in a week and our clinic sends us a txt message though with the H.I.V. And hep test results can take longer oh we had our hep jabs done there for free

Even though it is very busy, they always say they wish more people would make it a routine to be checked rather than just when they think there is a problem. I ask for the full works every time…. blood test, examination and swabs.

It is estimated 1 in 10 (some say 1 in 8) sexually active 18-25 year olds have Chlamydia. There are large pots of money across the country to tackle this issue and many PCT’s just aren’t spending it.

i have worked at CRI Gum Clinic and I know that if you have a cold sore and you perform oral on another person you give them herpes and believe me I have seen herpes on a young girl at the clinic and it is very painful and extremely sore for her, men just seem to get it in the throat and few ulcers on willy but it never ever goes away so always be careful

PS - it's moved since the days of clinic 6... it was down the stairs in the Winsor building in those days. Women in the first door, guys in the second door and the wooden cubicle type things around the reception window lol

Having read this thread, I am still amazed to see how many people think they are "safe" just because they use condoms for penetration. There are plenty of other ways to catch and pass on STI's. I have a full MOT every 6-10 weeks depending on who I meet, and I do insist that the guys I meet have had a recent full screen. It is good policy to keep a record of meets so that people can be contacted if anything shows up on tests. Keeping the text from the clinic is another good way of putting people's mind at ease, as it shows the date of the screen and what the results were.. . . and it reminds me when I need to go again.

I have talked to several men on Fab who, when challenged, said that they have never had a check-up. The reasons they believe that they are "safe" are interesting, to say the least. !!

I concur with the last poster. I think there is even an old wives tale that "married" men are immune to such dirty, evil diseases. Just like every area of life, there are resposible people and there are the ones you could push off a cliff sometimes PMSL.
