. Not a bad idea.

I honestly think dont do it. I have an online store and times are even hard there.... It's really tricky with fashion

Is the tattooing going down the pan then? Surely a. Newly opened shop should be keeping you busy.

I'd stick with the tattooing. Clothes stores shut down all the time round here especially independently run ones! How big is your shop? Can you section a part off for some clothes and see his they go? A tattoo shop near me has done similar selling ed hardy stuff etc. x

We'll I guess Kat Von D Hagerstown merchandise range in store. Maybe you could do that rather than open up another shop.

I think the best advice you've been given is to run both operations from the same premises, thus keeping your overheads to a minimum.

If you ran them from seperate premises, unless you are spectacularly good at multitasking and keepingall the balls in the air at the same time, one or both businesses would suffer, perhaps terminally.

Only you will really know what your own capabilities are but the best advice I was given about business was to keep asking yourself why it wouldn't work, and if you have an answer to overcome the issue then you potentially have a business.

The other thing to remember with clothes as opposed to tattoos, is with clothes you have cash tied up in stock waiting for people to buy, whereas when you tattoo because it's your skill and time you charge for, there is less cash tied up in the business.

Very good advice. Another poster has mentioned about selling from the premises. I know of a tattoo parlour that sold Goth stuff from the premises. She did an absolute roaring trade in both tats and Goth gear! She eventually sold up and moved to Germany doing the same thing. Apparently no day is ever slack in the shop there either.

Was going to suggest something similar as I know many people into ink who are also into goth/rock/alt/clubbing/fetish, so attracting business to one side may generate business in the other.

Are you bored of tattooing or bored of running a shop?

If it's running the shop get a manager in if it's tattooing I'd be worried. I'd hate to go to a bored tattoo artist!

Here's my view...in the first instance if you have only just started as a tattooist you need to build up your reputation, which you can't expect to do successfully do if your mind is focused on another project elsewhere.

However, as an alternative to opening a walk-in store, why don't you open a fashion store online...that way you can take orders whilst still earning your bread and butter as a tattooist?

Just thought
