The very first meet we tried to arrange we were chatting to one guy and he let us down at the last minute the hotel was already booked and paid for. So the second time we tried to arrange a meet we were chatting to about 10 guys and we did meet one of they guys so chatting doesn’t guarantee a meet (mr)

I have a friend who does this. She used to do it with the men she dated a lot. It always caused a lot of trouble. She's met her match now at nearly 60 years of age and has been with a man who won't tolerate it.

She tries it with me now and again but when it doesn't produce the desired result stops.

It's an ego boost for the people that do it.

I'm not too nice, which is code in my book for 'will tolerate poor behaviour'. If she or anyone tries it with me I leave them to it. The first sign and I just say something like 'contact me when you're ready to meet'. These people want to know they have you on a string.

I had this only yesterday. Had been chatting with what appeared to be a nice, genuine lady for a while. We had decided we should meet today, arranged a time and place, continued chatting, then she just deleted her profile.

Quite frustrating as a single guy on here at the best of times haha

I had similar, years ago when single.

We did meet a few times, then there were always excuses or promises, that never happened.

He even contacted me last year again, but I didn't keep in contact, as I wasn't interested in starting more of the same.

I don't like being just another option to someone, if they can't get anyone else to meet.

This particular friend of mine would start dating a man, after a while she'd tell him she needed a break and could they just be friends for a while, giving the impression that she would want to get back to a romantic relationship with them. She'd then ignore all their messages until she thought they might lose interest when she would answer one. This gave them hope and the cycle continued.

The guys mistake was in believing her in the first place but it wasn't their fault. She strung one guy along for years and became angry when he finally met someone else and refused to go to their wedding

If after chatting I say I’m going to meet then I meet , I take time to shower clean up , drive and arrive in time its manners after all,,,,

Oh and yes been stood up a few times

I think it’s not just fab that has this issue, a lot of the dating apps have this too.

It’s a mix, some of it is fantasy, they love talking about it, but not actually following through, I just see these as time wasters but doesn’t actually bother me that much.

Some are just validators, they are looking for validation, unfortunately this site has a lot of it, mostly the lady might not find much interaction on dating sites, but find a lot of validation from sites like this, I find these the worst as they are more likely to set a date/ time then ghost.

And finally there are the simple, real life happens. They have every intention to meet, but something comes up, how true most of this is, I’m not sure, but again doesn’t bother me much as they are more likely to let you know before you travel/ find babysitters etc.

It’s a fact of life, but remember there’s a whole sea of people, very very horny people, if one is wasting your time, just move on.
