Probably wouldn't use hand sanitiser. Just boiling water in a dish or a bowl and drop the rods into that and leave for a few mins. They and keep as clean/untouched as possible until applying slight lube then inserting and go slowly x

He can buy stainless steel or silicone rods very easily over the internet. They are inexpensive.

I also have a vibrating silicone one that's great.

Boil them for about 10 minutes in a big pan of water with nothing else added. Remove them wearing medical gloves.

Only put them on a sterilised or sanitised surface before insertion.

WElear medical latex or nitrate gloves the whole time you are touching any of the equipment or sounding him.
