Age Verification

What do fab users think about having age verification on this site? In simple terms it would be providing evidence to admin that you are the age stated on your profile.

Then you could have an “age verified” badge or something.

Yay or nay?

I’ve built a few KYC (know your customer) things for certain websites and implemented third party options too.

It’s a good idea but if you’d need people to upload clear photos of themselves followed by something like their driving license.

If you’re having this stored somewhere your security better be perfect.

It's a little more invasive but I can understand the reasoning and for the idea. As stated before security would need to be damn near air tight though. It might stop some of the pretenders and secure against the underage that may slip through some cracks.

It's not something I would like to see personally because as said above, I have zero faith in any sites ability to keep my details safe so I wouldn't be providing any of that info.

This type of verification is already in place on many other websites. You’ve probably done it yourself without realising if you’ve ever used a banking app.

This site wouldn’t handle the sensitive data for verification - All of that goes through an approved secure third party provider. Similar to how your payments work on this site.

I've had my face pic and personal details shared by others on here a number of times so I will always be reluctant when it comes to having to provide that info just so I can stay on the site. I would leave first.

As mentioned - none of that is a risk with these existing systems. Your photos and details are not stored on this website or shared with the team. It’s a plug-in, to a system similar to Experian.

In regards to other users sharing your photos - sorry that happened to you. But that’s a totally different issue to this.

Ha yeah I’m more concerned about people who are in their late 50’s that claim they are 39. I’m getting a little tired of being catfished.

And that's the sites fault in what way? Was your verified sign shared if no then they wouldn't do so for your age verification document. If YOU chose to send a face picture or your phone address on here then that's on you and on who broadcasted it.

So, you want everybody who uses the site to submit to age verification just because you've been catfished? Isn't it your responsibility to satisfy yourself regarding the bona fides of a contact?

Where did I say it was the sites fault? I'm saying just as I've said on every thread here discussing having to provide pics or driving licence details that I won't be doing it just to be able to stay on the site. I've never had to provide a facepic to my bank so I'm not going to do it here just to assure some that my age is correct?

Maybe because I've been here 9 years and never once been catfished I always react negatively to suggestions from those who seem to have lots of negative experiences that I should have to change my approach or do things to fix issues they are having.

Yes I want this site to provide a way to make it less likely for others to mislead or deceive. What’s so offensive about that?

They already verify photos and meets.

They do provide ways. You can cam with someone in the chat rooms and there is advice here

https://www.fabswingers.com/content/safer-meets.html.

You can ensure someone is well verified too.

To be fair, this has always been the best site for what we all do. All the others are abit restricted. Just less of that age category in terms of people on here than the other age categories!

It’s a no from me, I don’t trust this site to hold my personal details safely. I think passport or driving licences are the only way it can be done properly and there’s no chance of me giving those details any further than for their specific uses.

You need to start taking responsibility for yourself and your actions. It seems very entitled of you to expect thousands of people to put their personal data at risk, just because your judgement is faulty.

As soon as data is shared it is at risk; anyone will tell you that. Someone would have to organise and pay for any data collection and retention (and review and deletion). All for you?

All for me? No all for everyone. I understand your concern about data, but once again there is no more risk than when someone pays with their bank card.

Age verification systems exist already, and the data isn’t held or even seen by the site that uses them (in this case, fab). Using the “it’s not secure” argument just shows lack of understanding of how it works, rather than being an actual valid argument.

It’s odd to try and blame the people who are tricked, rather than the predators who lie to try and meet others. People shouldn’t have to play detective every day. You don’t even have a profile photo of a visible profile so that’s rather hypocritical of you.

It would never work on here , let's face it there has to be around 50% of site users who aren't even photo verified with admin. What makes you think anyone would upload any other proof. And if you are going to ask for photo id from a driver's license as proof of age then security would have to be markedly improved possibly to the point where we would have to start paying alongside site supporter. One of my early profiles I deleted reared it's head by someone else.

I was anticipating that you might express the points you raise. Easily dealt with as follows:

'For everyone?' No, most of us take reasonable measures to carry out our own verification of people we meet. In over a decade of using this site, I can say that we have never been caught out. Disappointed by prowess, yes, but never caught out. Most people use their common sense. We realised someone was outside our age range from a simple conversation; easy.

'It's not secure?' In a (recent) previous life, I held a senior role related to data security. If you really believe that any transfer of data is perfectly secure, I encourage you to think again. The bank card comparison is fatuous, to say the least. If your bank card is misused, the bank will normally covers losses. If your personal data is misused, you're on your own. If you think about it, it might explain to you why we don't keep images on our profile: it has never caused us a problem in meeting the right people. There's no problem with my understanding of 'how it works'.

'Victim Shaming?' No, not at all. Going back to your banking comparison, if you're elderly, infirm or vulnerable, you have my sympathy. But, if you are simply relinquishing your responsibility as a sentient adult to look after yourself, then how far does this indolence extend? What happens when you meet a new neighbour? Do you want to see their passport, birth certificate and at least two references before you speak to them? Or do you use your common sense and judgement, progressing in your relationship as your confidence in the individual allows?

In a society where wet-nursing is becoming a prevalent threat to individual responsibility, any sorts of unnecessary interventions should be unwelcome.
