Just Bad Manners

I might be going against the grain here. I also fully respect peoples right to disengage from Conversation.

However I do struggle when someone in the middle of a perfectly respectful and pleasant conversation just block you for no apparent reason.

I consider that rude, if you dont want to carry on talking jusy say bye, no need to block someone.

Is this common practice on fab, Im thinking if it is fuck it I cant be bothered.

The internet has stripped many people of their manners because it allows them to be anonymous, and to do whatever they please without being persecuted. You see it on twitter, people being trolls etc.

Though this isn't the same as trolling on twitter, it has the same effect on the 'victim' in that it causes much thought/spinning about something so negative and the culprit neither knows now cares.

Don't take it personally. We've been blocked for not wanting to show pics, or for correcting their profile spelling (we brought it on ourselves there mind). 🤷

Anecdotally it is common practice.

Think many people start with politely declining and then get tired of the inevitable coaxing-to-abusive responses that follow in many cases (I'd say 9/10 cases in my experience) when they have limited time and are here for selective amusement and fun, over hassles.

You could take the block as them deciding it wasn't going to work and not wasting your time further with pointless correspondence or explaining why something's changed and they aren't inclined anymore for very personal/ subjective reasons rather than critique of you?

Id also point out the site rules are no reply is a reply as no one is entitled to a response or anything from anyone.

There's always a reason!

There's always a reason and people have different perspectives on how well the conversation is going and things they find acceptable to say. It's easy to project onto the other person but if someone blocked me mid conversation, I'd be more inclined to self reflect on what I'd done or said.

There is definitely always a reason for the block. I recently blocked a guy I have been chatting for a while, and was even willing to meet which doesn't happen often now. The conversation was going well, until he asked a very crass question that I certainly did not expect from him, based on the rest of the conversation. And yes, that one question showed me we weren't compatible, so I blocked him to stop wasting my (and his) time.

There could have been something that was said that maybe you thought was an innocent joke but it may have been read not as intended, raised a red flag and that was the end of the conversation. Or, simply, the other party got tired of the chat? Or a miriad of other reasons, including life getting in the way.

And I'm sorry, OP, but if you're no longer interested in someone you have been chatting to, for whatever reason, there is every need to block them. It doesn't only stop any future contact and you coming up in their searches and vice versa. It also stops any potentially pleading or plain abusive messages.

It happens quite often and you just have to accept it and move on.

I've been badly bitten by this, but life goes on and lessons are learned.

If it is happening to you repeatedly then the odds are very high that you are doing something to make it happen.

Personally I almost never see it.

Never happened before, hence my surprise at it happening. Conversation was jovial and polite, and going both ways.

I fine with someone not wanting to continue I just dont get the need to block.

If it is a one off then just roll with it and move on. Their loss.

Personally, I don't block without reason

If me and you messaged and you find yourself suddenly blocked, you said something that was completely across the line.

I'm obviously not speaking for everyone, but that's me.

I'll also block of I'm spammed without replying, like they think harassing will be sexy?

Yes it is ! I’m finding the longer someone is on site the worse it is ? At least new members respond .also find that women are inundated with messages so that doesn’t help.keep on trying

Worst thing I get is men striking up a normal (well, normal for here) conversation. We discuss what we want to do, then it comes to arranging a meet and I stress what I look like (to manage expectations) and then... insta-block.

FFS, read the profile. And at least say "oh, I didn't realise, no thanks"

I find that I don't block for no reason op, there will be a reason or sometimes people aren't quite who they claim to be.

For me it's usually because they've got pushy, said something I didn't like or I've realised it's just going nowhere.

I do generally tell the other person why I'm blocking them, before I do.

However with so many abusive people on here, I understand why some don't.

I do chat to others for a good while, so you can tell if they've not been truthful about themselvez etc.

Renfrewshire

Happened to us this morning.

We got a message last night from a couple who live 200 miles away saying they would be in our area next week and looking to meet. Told them unfortunately we have family plans next weekend so unable to meet.

Woke up today to a face pic from them (we never asked for it and it was only like the 3rd ever message from them) saying let's keep in touch. We sent a polite reply saying it would be great to keep in touch but that we didn't share face pics so early on in chats, thanked them for sharing theirs but told them no need to do so and that they could delete it from the chat to keep us even.

They read the message and blocked us ...weird as hell lol. If that's the type of folk they are then glad they made use of the block button.

I use the block button as a permanent filter.

And I'd never think twice about sending a message explaining why I've chosen to use it. There's always a reason. And that reason never needs to be justified to anyone else aside from me.

Really?

Although I suspect you're not the kind of person that doesn't read a profile before chatting.

I just think it's common curtesy to say "oh my bad, I didn't realise you weren't what I was looking for before I contacted you"

Which is how most of my blocks happen.
