If your partner likes to be tied up they are definitely an advantage

Tips have a search for “crash restraint” and “the duchy” the first has a good free course structure which takes you through basics and up to more advanced but can move at own pace.

"Are rope skills an asset.... Who likes rope skills. Any tips"

If you are asking, will having rope skills give you some advantage in the lifestyle, it's a "maybe".

But there is a distinction between people who like being restrained and people who specifically like to be tied with rope.

If you just want to restrain someone who knows what is to happen and has agreed to it, then velcro cuffs are you friend. If the person wants specifically to be tied with rope then having the skill is an asset.

As you appear to be a single male I will mention that the numbers of women into what may be considered a fetish type activity are quite small (although growing). Although Peer Ropes are fine for learning the basics, but not all are good at having a mix of genders available to be tied or tie. So I was at a peer rope yesterday in a lovely room with hard points for suspension. But most people arrived as a couple or had someone they were going to do rope with arriving later. There were 4 male riggers and one male rope bottom just chatting and twiddling there thumbs for 3 hours. One of the riggers and the sub male left early and went to the Gorean munch about to start across town.

My suggestion is, unless rope bondage is something you personally want to pursue, cuffs are cheaper, as easy and as quick to restrain someone.

I learnt my core skills in Cubs, and I can still tie six different lashings. Just in case.
