Have you ever stayed friends with an ex or did you completely wipe them out of your life? I found to heal it's easier to wipe them out. For me it was unhealthy and mentally stressful/draining trying to remain friends. What are your thoughts? Can exes ever be friends?

I Co parent with one of my ex’s but absolutely not friends. We tolerate each other when we have to… outside of that I’ve never stayed friend with an ex… generally because the few relationships I’ve had have become toxic at the end and I don’t have the energy to keep dealing with crap

After me (mr) split with my first wife we stayed in touch because of the kids, but later found out we got on better after we split up, wouldn't go as far as saying we were friends but got along better than we did when we were married tbf, although because my kids are grown up and have their own families we very rarely see each other apart from at grandkids birthday parties.

The relationship with an ex is purely dependent upon how they are during the break up. I have one ex that is a friend but most are just people I used to know.

I've tried to stay on good terms with my kids' Mum but due to how she behaves it's cordial at best and if it wasn't for the kids then she'd be just another someone I used to know.

My latest ex has been a very difficult breakup so I won't speak to her again after things have been finalised.

26 years together is a long time to walk away from. Especially as her health hasn't been wonderful for a decade.

She has, one of her grandchildren plus her two sons, living with her. But still get's stir crazy. I visit most weekends, on a Fri & Sat to keep her company.

We co-parent our child, live close to each other and have keys to each others house.

Our relationship came to a mutually agreeable end, so no sour grapes

I'm still really good friends with my last ex (a seven year relationship) and we all still meetup once in a while (so with my current partner). They get on really well too.

Personally I've never understood why that shouldn't be the case, or how any serious relationship can then fall apart so badly, that you can't even communicate without animosity. I've never ever felt like that.

I absolutely love and respect women, maybe that's why it works like it does.

Just because we grew apart or ended up wanting different things out of life, shouldn't mean we can't still appreciate and continue to like each other.

The only ex I’ve stayed in contact with is my kids’ dad, there have been times when we were friends but we just tolerate each other now because we have to.

I recently got out of a 3.5yr relationship and currently still figuring out if we can stay friends…feels a bit weird tbh.

Well I must be the opposite to most of you who have commented. Out of 4 of my kids by 4 different mothers I'm still very good friends with 3 of them. I have a door key to my son's mother's flat who I visit 3 times a week ( they live 5 minutes away). The mother of my youngest daughter has a key to my flat still good friends. And still friends with my second eldest daughter's mother.

I stayed close friends with an ex for a long time. When I entered a new relationship, our friendship ended over night.

No drama or anything. No goodbyes. We just didn’t speak ever again. It wasn’t a conscious decision. I only realised years down the line that we hadn’t spoken at all.

I was with my ex for 23 years and it was a tough breakup for me, we have 2 daughters so had to keep in touch but after 3 years we are quite close again as we both realised that we still loved each other and want the best for each other but aren’t in love anymore so we are better off as friends so it depends on why the relationship broke down and what kind of person you are I suppose

I just can't be friends with my ex-wife. I have tried, but she just makes it impossible, and nothing is ever good enough so I have cut her off as much as possible. With having kids it's inevitable but I do try to avoid as much contact as I can. Just because we are not friends it doesn't mean I can't be civil and also have tried to explain to my ex that even if we are not friends, it's dosnt mean we have to be enemies. My ex unfortunately doesn't see it that way

My ex is my friend. I look out for him and he looks out for me. Maybe this is because my daughter lives with her dad and my son lives with me. Still think we would have stayed in touch if this wasn't the case. We were together a long time and he remains a big part of my life.

I'm friends with the majority of my ex partners. There are only a handful that would no longer be in my life. If something is heading sideways I much prefer to cut it off before things become bitter and there's serious hurt. We might have needed space for a while but come back into each other's orbits again. She had quite a lot maybe once a week as I have to pick the grandkids up from her house as she doesn’t drive. We’ve got no feelings for each other at all just get good friends because of the kids and grandkids, but I found the biggest problem with most of my ex girlfriends was they she didn’t like it and get very jealous. My last ex-girlfriend of six years was jealous to death of my ex-wife. Was a big problems When I was seening the ex wife picking the grandkids up. As we ended up splitting up because of it.

I can imagine how hard that must have been for you. Jealousy is not easy to deal with, It's a shame your relationship ended after so many years together because of it.

it was very hard as when it was just me and her we had great time together but soon as any birthdays or Christmas coming up. It was a nightmare. Where would be a family gathering. If she was in the same room as the ex-wife? She not cause anything in the room but as we got home all hell would breakloose. Plus it didn’t help that the ex wife never met anybody since not to my knowledge and she still got our married name.
