Is anyone here experienced with Kinbaku and/or Shibari? My partner and I would like to explore this, but short of buying some rope and scissors, we don't really know where to start. Where can we find reliable information on the techniques of tying, positions, and knot tying?

any constructive advice welcome.

I would recommend for some online tasters having a look at Crash-restraint lots of helpful videos and a free course to follow.

Also check out the Duchy and most importantly their single column ties. I like the Burlington Bowline on there.

Finally on YouTube there is a girl called lvoudou rope” or something similar.

In terms of rope start out with some cheap cotton rope from your local LoveHoney, Pulse and Cocktails etc.

If you decide you like it start looking on Etsy for proper shibari rope, normally jute or hemp.

Then there are also local rope jams that you can go along to. Normally found on the FETish LIFestyle website.

PS the cotton rope is only really for decorative ties like

Diamond dresses etc.

When you decide you want to start pulling your partner around with the rope you’ll need the thicker jute/hemp shibari ropes.

Peer rope groups are your friend.

I've started learning some rope with a new partner lately and it's been fun with the information and guides we can find online, but I really want to get to a proper rope workshop to see it all a bit more in action 💜

Patience with each other is key. It’s very easy to have confidence knocked as the rope top if the rope bottom thinks it’s funny to wriggle about. Even worse when they try to help.

It’s a mutual thing, they have to help you as the top otherwise it becomes frustrating. You will make mistakes and it’s up to them to be patient.

Only experience with shibari is self towing chest harnesses

But I love how it looks, some absolutely stunning shibari human art out there!

I would agree with this but with some extra advice. You are in the lucky position to have a willing partner. Therefore, it may help if your rope time is divided between practice (labbing) and play. In labbing you can concentrate on just learning, whereas play you concentrate on your partner.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I've been checking out some of the people mentioned here on Y Tube. Some informative stuff.

I'm going to be trying out my new techniques in Venice, early June!
