When my ex and I embarked on a swinging/open relationship we realised that the typical vanilla rules around relationships would need a makeover. Forsaking all others, for example, wasn't gonna fly.

For us we wanted to keep it simple but also protect what we had together so the amended rules for us included:

100% honesty even if it was difficult to say or hear

If one of us was unsure then it was a no for both until we were able to talk it through and both be happy about it

We were never to meet the same person twice unless it was as a couple or that we had both met and liked them

Swinging would never get in the way of us as a couple. If we had a date arranged and one of us wanted to do something then the date would be cancelled or postponed

What rules do you have as a swinging couple?

In my experience, have a long list of commandments that the woman must follow but they are subject to change when it's the man's turn. Oh and the final rule, the man shall run off with the first woman that shows their penis attention.

I'm sure others will have better advice though

Ouch... Doesn't sound great.

Ironically, it was my gf not following the rules after reading me the riot act for suggesting we could adjust the rules that started the cracks in the underlying relationship so I feel your pain.

It was awesome for about 18 months. We had a lot of fun together and separately, and even when we had fun on our own it increased the fun when either of us got back home.

Coming home and getting in to bed quietly before waking her up by going down on her and having some amazingly intimate and loving sex is a particularly fond memory for example.

Our sex life was good already but we just fancied giving it a go.

It started going wrong when there were lies but that just highlighted some underlying issues that hadn't been addressed so when the lies were uncovered there was a big heart-to-heart and decided that we wanted different things in life.

We've remained friends and it was the most amicable and friendly split I've had.
