It's difficult really. We quite often get messages saying hello or something similar and we're never sure how to respond. What's expected of us if we do reply?

Lazy in messaging, lazy in bed. A red flag!

how you figure all that from a simple hello? That the same if someone says hello on the street?

I don't think it indicates laziness.

The dilemma we feel lies in that often replying implies interest in meeting while not replying invites accusations of rudeness. Also if we reply that we're not interested the person will say they were only being polite and nobody chats any more. 🤷

It probably just wasn't to be, either something in picture, profile or distance that didn't agree

A lot of people use blocking as a tool to filter out those they’re not interested in. You probably just weren’t their type - it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you, your profile or your message.

A complete stranger with their arse hanging out says hello to me in the street? What are you suggesting I should do?

We openly state in our profile that single word messages get deleted unread, but we wouldn't block you unless you did it a second time.

Depending on our inebriation level we can be very block happy: one word messages, or questions we've already answered on our profile, or if you're really not our type, or if the message is confusing or badly written...

Don't worry about getting blocked. We get blocked too. It's a dating site, just move on and find someone else. There are no shortage of people on here. Just assume you weren't their cup of tea and get back to it!!

Surely a nice introduction would go further than just a lazy 'hey' no effort always risks a block, especially if a dick picture is attached.

GONE/TIMEOUT (No DMs please)

Don't take it personally.. it is likely you aren't their type and it is simpler to block?

I am likely to block anybody with their tongue out in a photo 🤷‍♀️

I currently have 16 messages in my inbox, (despite my hostile profile having no DMs as my location)

If I stay online long enough to reply to 6 of them (realistically 30 mins work...) I will likely attract 10 more.

Most women with more welcoming profiles get 50, 100, even more messages a day.

It is very much a numbers game as single men far outnumber couples and women.

It happens & the Hi, hello messages go the same way every single time.

"Hi"

"Hi"

"How are you"

"Good thanks, you?"

"Good, what you looking for?"

Read the pissing profile and stop wasting my time.

Once you've had the same conversation 173920 times it becomes tedious.

I'm fine, my days fine, no I have no weekend plans, no I don't want to meet now, no I won't entertain your sex talk.

People be pragmatic.

Not exactly our style but it's understandable. Stranger of the Internet says hello. Your not intrested and don't want any further interaction. So you may not want someone you're never going to interact with continue to see your profile or your statuses or where you be at. So you block. It says no thanks, prevents any more wasted time (for either party) and mitigates against any future dodgy activity or stalking towards your profile/activity.

The key is not to let emotions get involved and just to see it as pragmatic administration. After all its clearly something that was never going to work anyway and no one owes an unsolicited message from a stranger off the Internet a reply.
