Heating on yet?

When is it acceptable to turn your heating on?

The last couple of years, I've been a good way into October until I've turned it on.

It's still September and my house is 17°C and it's making me unhappy being this cold. Do I give in and turn it on, or brave it and hope tomorrow will be warmer?

"If it's cold hell yes but we have got the gas fire on ."

id rather put the central heating on than put the gas fire on.

mines one of the older cast iron gas fires so when put on low it still pours heat out from it compared to the newer fires.

I put it on a couple of weeks ago to check it all works ok etc ready for winter, but that's it. I considered putting it on last night as it was pretty nippy, but the kids were fine with hot water bottles so I just went to bed early to keep warm instead. I'll try hang on as long as possible before it's used because otherwise I'll run through the winter credit I've built up over the year before winter is even here!

When I'm home alone working, I might start using my little oil filled rad in my office, as that kicks out loads of heat but doesn't cost much to run (and certainly costs less than heating the whole house while I sit in one room!)
