whats the right way? it seems a uphill struggle. Have i got the right pic on or is it my profile.

Are you saying the right thing when you speak to people.

It seems at times a all to confusing.

Do a forum search for profile advice and message advice as there are some great threads that you might find useful. Socials and clubs are a great way of getting known on the scene. Welcome and good luck.

just be you, engage with them and see what happens.

when speaking to a couple, engage with both.

don't compromise your standards and don't have swinging the bee and end all, it really isn't

There isn't a perfect profile but a quick tip might be to have a smiling picture and a friendly one. Some may see some of your pictures a little pitbullish but hey its up to you just trying to give you a different point of _iew so good luck whatever.
