Flirty chat or straight to it?

I may be doing this all wrong but when I contact a woman or couple I start off ny being flirty and chatty rather than straight in with a "Up for a shag?" type of message. Then you have to judge when to flip out of it and get serious. Too soon and you've blown it, too late and she thinks you're a virginal timewaster. So guys how do you pitch it and ladies what works for you?

I prefer people speak to me as they would any other person, then see if anything more develops.

If I get any messages that are crude or too suggestive when I don't know someone well, it's an instant delete.

I think take each conversation as it comes, as everyone's different.
