It's seems like there's an increase people with no profile pics / pics friends only , that don't read profiles and just seem to message out of nowhere

Good chance they're fake/scam profiles, in that case. Not necessarily, but likely.

It's a free access site, so no investment to recoup. Of the thousands of people here, you will only ever match with a tiny minority.

Anything that makes it very simple to filter the unsuitable out, is a huge bonus.
