Turned down for a social!

Well that's a first, I've been to two or three socials in the past couple of years, they were open to everyone, met some nice people.

I've never heard of one with limitations on who can come along before.... must have grown two heads or something. Anybody else heard of this?

Just for the record I'm surprised & not bitching !

They are maybe just trying to balance the numbers and limiting single males - how much would you hate it if you went and it was 80% guys?

This is odd because in my eyes a social (if it is in a public place) is mainly for people to get seen and chatting and often verified as being genuine etc.

My sentiments exactly...... it's in a hotel.... so room shouldn't be a problem

why not go...you may actualy get verified at long last..years a long time go if u have met peeps and been to socials surely someone would of verified you by now.

maybe that was reason they said no??? lol

Wherever a social is held there are always limits on numbers... I've organised plenty with room for anything from 40-150 people...

There's always got to be a cut off point of how many people get the details of venue etc, even allowing for a %age of no shows.

OP, you're not clear if YOU personally were turned down for a place for some reason, or if you were just turned down for a place due to mumbers / too late /some other reason

Or why not respect the organisers right to say no or invite/accept whoever they wish to their social without worrying about gatecrashers ? To play devils advocate !

have to say that in the 6/7 years I have been going to swinging socials I have never been to one where they have had to manipulate the figures... and where single blokes have ever outnumbered couples and women...

when most guys work out social means in a public place to socialise... and isn't some sort of codeword for "orgy" a lot don't go anyway...

shame... been to socials all over the isles.. scotland,wales, northern ireland and england...

and it only tends to be a "english social" thing where this happens.... to the point where I stopped going

At first my enquiry was just deleted, second message which that's a no then was answered - no thank you.

No reason given or implied.

But as I've already said I was tempted to go anyway but in the end decided no don't want to cause a fuss.

just get yourself to a welsh social one weekend... they were brilliant hosts and the hospitality was fantastic...

just go to the welsh ones on the trains, and the scottish ones on the planes!!!! lol

There is a reason why I tend not to go to socials - many restrict or don't allow single men, so who am I supposed to talk to? Couples tend to stick to couples so as a single woman I am left as a Betty no mates.

Don't worry. You'll find a friendlier social that will have you along.

actually you'll probably find that the true "socials" restrict single guys from going.. which is one of the things that I liked about them... and as I said, I have yet to be at a social where they have ever had the manipulate the numbers......

maybe it is the way they are going now... which is a shame as we encourage people to go as it is probably the easiest way to get yourself known... and stand out by actually going, as most guys wont..

The York social is restricted single men, and half the time they don't turn up anyway. Not much use all round!

Been to a few couples and single fem socials although they were posted as that a few select single m were invited to keep the balance. I think a lot of couples don't mind a few single m being there it's just when there are to many it becomes an issue on keeping the numbers down.

I know...

sometimes I wish that organisers who manipulate figures would actually go to a social where they don't to see exactly what they are like... that single men are not some sort of boogey creatures.... and that they do contribute a lot in number that are nowhere near as big as they fear...

I don't go to socials that manipulate numbers out of principle.... I wish more would take that stand

so it will be welsh and scottish socials for me..

I wont go to a couples and single females social, nor will I go to one with limited single men. I like to decide for myself which males to socialise with.

If I'm arranging the men to come to the social, I might as well just arrange a private party with said men and other single women

At times thay can be clicky . Its who you know ..... on other site I was on party was for there friends people thay new and if your face fit ...... if not you was out.

Strange that, I have heard that Wales has a good swinging social scene. Who would have thought it!

I can understand the OP's concern, but not being invited to a social is an extension of not getting a reply to an email, etc. It's personal, but it helps not to take it that way, and move on. There are so many exciting socials out there!

thats upto the people going, if they wanna do anything its upto them. im just trying to hold a social where people can get together and see what clubs are like....a lot are newbies who want to see...so doesnt mean they have to play, no club should have people there who feel pressured xxxx

Its better being turned down rather than there being a ration 9f 9 men to 1 female at a gathering well not unless your bi.

There are many socials going on just get in early for the next one and enjoy.

My advice to you would be, organise your own social. Take the opportunity to be there to meet and greet your guests and all being well all your hard work will payoff.
