Although the practice of dogging is not explicitly banned by one particular law, there are a multitude of offences anyone caught doing the dirty in public could be charged with.

These include anything from indecent exposure, public lewdness and gross indecency, to name a few.

Just a quick google search

“Answer. Officers are preparing an answer. The activity of 'dogging', where individuals engage in sexual acts in a public or semi-public place or watching others doing so, is not a specific offence under English Law.”

In the UK, the legislation that pertains to dogging activities includes the Sexual Offenses Act 2003, which prohibits engaging in sexual activity in a public place. The Public Order Act 1986 may also be relevant as it prohibits indecent behavior in public spaces. Additionally, local bylaws and regulations may apply depending on the specific location where dogging is taking place.

This is correct. Someone would need to make a complaint. This could be a member of the public or a police officer who catches you.

If you are going to go dogging, make sure that you are away from anyone who wouldn’t want to see it.

This is my pet hate, some doggers and gay cruisers are litter bugs, it’s disgusting.

If someone sees/hears you and makes a complaint then yes.

That's interesting. By that logic, is it also an offense to have sex with blinds open in your home?

Yes. It can be if someone sees and reports you.

The local constabulary has visited the dogging spots near me now and again when I’ve been there.

They very rarely, if ever, get out the car when they patrol.. they know what’s going on but if no one is hurting anyone then they just drive in by.

Very rarely they may get out, they chat to any females and make sure they’re not being coerced and again drive off..

As other posters have said, clean up after yourself and keep everything consensual and there is never any bother..

I remember a discussion with a police officer at a dogging site, along the lines of " we know what you are doing here, you know that we know, but unless we catch you we really don't care".

I have had several chats at dogging sites with the police and none of them have asked me to move or made any threats.

The trick is to make sure that you are no where near anyone who would make a complaint.

It’s not difficult really.

If you park your campervan on Tesco’s carpark then don’t be surprised if you get your collar felt.

Seeing you yes, hearing you only. No.

Dogging is a name for people partaking in activities that are illegal, so maybe there’s nothing in the law that states dogging is illegal but when people go dogging they’re breaking specific laws so it’s illegal by association….having sex in a public place is illegal no matter what you call it or where you do it.

And obviously the police aren’t going to do anything about it if there aren’t any complaints or they don’t see people doing it because they won’t know anything about it. How can they do something about something they know nothing about….but I’m sure it’s one of those things that they know happens but they turn a blind eye unless the public starts complaining about it.

Having sex in a campervan isn’t having sex in public because the public can’t see you, just because people are able to walk past it doesn’t mean it’s a public place. There’s a pavement directly outside my house but that doesn’t mean my house is a public place. If there are windows in the campervan that allow people to see you having sex then that’s illegal just like it would be if I was having sex in my house right next to the front window so people walking past could see.
