What are some common misconceptions about polyamory that you often encounter, and how do you address them?

Some people think poly people are always seeking out new partners or that it's primarily about sex which isn't the case

"Oh I'm not looking for anything serious either."

Non monogamous does not mean casual. My relationships have depth and meaning regardless of how many of them I have

Totally agree Polyamory is not solely about sexual relationships. It's about forming meaningful and consensual emotional connections with multiple partners.

Polyamory is a valid relationship choice for individuals who genuinely desire and thrive in multiple loving relationships.

A lot of people think that polyamory is the same as ethical non-monogamy.

A lot of people on here think that ethical non-monogamy means I must be having threesomes and orgies with my partners at every opportunity.

"My question is how does someone who has never been in a poly relationship manage to secure one as i think this would suit me to a T"

Same way as you get in a relationship with someone who is monogamous.

You meet someone who is poly and ask them out.

The same way people secure monogamous ones.

But find compatible people and building that connection

Uhhh plenty of people think the only way to do it is hierarchical

ie to have a "primary" partner, probably nesting, probably doing relationship escalator stuff, and that your other partners are secondary or even tertiary.

Of course some people do it that way, but it is by no means the only way.

I have found the book Polysecure really useful exploration.
