I used one with a gf. Put a remote control egg in first then pump and use the egg.

Yeah, you don't want to do that. Pumping can break the skin so it's recommend to add a lube, adding toothpaste (a drying agent) even if it's for a short period of time will no doubt give more trouble than it's worth.
