neighbours dog

everytime I go outside my house at night to get something from my car,the chap 2 doors away is having a cigarette on his doorstep , his aggressive bulldog is about to go for me , and he stops it in his tracks just in time .. I avoid going our if I know he s outside because his dog will be there .. Last time I went back into the house ,. tonight crossed the road ... then went outside with a large hammer and made sure he saw that and put it in the boot of my car !!

what should I do ??

Stop going out to your car at night. I realise you should be free to do what you like and having something from stopping you makes you want to do something more but it could probably wait until morning. Failing that pepper, failing that, have a chat with him or buy anti- bite pants and gloves, failing that, the police?

I would ignore the dog and just carry on your life. Leave the hammer behind - dogs usually attack when they get excited and if they see you as some kind of threat then they will go for you so keep things calm and just ignore it.

If it gets so bad that you are feeling unable to leave your house then I would report it to 101.

No simple solution op, animals are very sensitive to emotions. My problem is dogs invariably raise my anxiety levels which in turn raise my aggression status, dogs pick up on this and so escalation of threat ensues. The owner is the problem and the only way I can see forward are repeated calls logging aggressive antisocial behaviour to the police. Initially it'll probably get worse before it gets better.

He shouldn't be allowing his dog to go for you. Can you have a word with him ?

A neighbour of ours found it highly amusing to stand in front of our house and let his dogs bark vast 5am. Mr N had 'a word' and it hasn't happened since.

You should be able to go outside without worrying about this
