Could I ask for people’s opinions on the term

“Open minded”

What do you think the person who’s stating this means?

I’ve recently spoken to someone who had this on their profile & enjoyed the conversation, but just wondered how others take it.

I take it to mean someone who accepts that people are different to them and doesn't feel threatened by it regardless of whether they agree or not.

In the context of legality of course

I don't take it as anything, though I've found most people I've spoken to who say they're open minded, actually aren't and will be vocal about shaming someone for something they don't like/wouldn't want to try.

That's just my experience though.

I'd be interested in how other people perceive it or what they mean when using it

That’s interesting, as I’ve never spoken to someone who has stated that they’re open minded & who have then proceeded to cast shame or judgement. Thank you for your opinion….& sorry about the arseholes

Again, a very different response from the people themselves. Strange that you’ve found most of them aren’t that open minded at all.

I think personally, the few I’ve spoken to are just extremely kinky or pervy, which isn’t a bad thing at all. I just think as long as no one is getting hurt (unless that’s the kink lol) each to their own. Be who you want to be & fantasise away!!

It's one of those phrases that means different things to different folks. A bit like I've no limits on here. We all have limits and we all have things we are not open to e.g certain kinks. Which is totally normal in my opinion.

I used to think I was open minded when I first signed up here but I've read and seen things that make me really uncomfortable so I am certainly not open-minded about those subjects or about the people discussing them.

It's a term like many others that has been bastardised to suit the situation.

Some see it as a way of saying their boundaries are flexible and they can be persuaded to see things from a different viewpoint.

Others see it as a sign that those saying it are easily manipulated.

I've also seen the flip side of this where people are shamed for not being open-minded and denegrated for being a little more conservative.

I've been told directly in the forums that I need to be more open-minded and explore my bisexual side despite the fact I and straight and have zero interest in other men.

Yes. I've seen several people who use it to mean "I'm into niche thing, and the majority of people who don't like it are wrong"

Preferences are preferences, and shame shouldn't go either way.

Thanks OP for the thread and dear Fabbers for answers. Never imagine openminded could have negative connotations to anyone. Discovery of the day.

For me openminded means open for ideas and new experience accepting everyone is different and not getting offended if it’s not for me.

For example I do call myself openminded. But I am not into watersports. I fully accept some might get real pleasure of it. If I happen to meet such person and will be offered to participate I’d say it’s not for me but would happily do what we are both into.

I consider myself open minded..iv experienced a varied range of ppls intrests some iv enjoyed chatting about and particapated..others iv been upfront and said sorry not for me...basically for me it means im approachable about anything..and like op said earlier..we all have limits

It’s because openminded doesn’t mean will go for anything. More like will not be shocked and is mature enough to say no and not judge you for mentioning it

If someone asked where you would like to eat and they replied "I'm open minded " to me it would mean you're happy to try any restaurant. Doesn't mean you'll enjoy everything on the menu but you'd certainly give everything a try

Where are the kinky people on here!? Lead the way!! We've generally struggled to find them lol

Found lots who enjoy kink via abit of spanking, some handcuffs etc but for anything more, we've hit brick walls so usually just use the other place for that but it'd be cool to find more here too!

I’m open minded and, to me, that man’s that I accept other people’s views on sex (in the context of fab), their kinks and fetishes. I’m happy for all who indulge in what they like in a consensual settings. Doesn’t mean that I indulge also though.
