I’ve worked in loads of offices during my working life, and have visited many, many more….I’ve never once been anywhere that has a ‘photocopy room’….I’ve never seen a photocopier located anywhere other than in the same room as where all the workers are sat. Why is there a need to dedicate an entire room just for the photocopier?

I have worked in organisations with a photocopying room albeit years ago when there was one copied for everyone.

Mr N and I met at work nearly 43 years ago. Whether that's a good thing or serves as a warning to be very careful depends on your point of view

My current workplace office, when I’m there, has 6 large photocopiers. Two are in an alcove/walkway on the main floor. The other 4 are in pairs in dedicated rooms off the main office. Why is that strange?

I am similar age to OP and remember photocopier room - it was small room with fax, copier, shredder, few stationary supplies, etc. This was in the finance industry. I think the purpose was two-fold - they were big machines so needed wall space and they were noisy when doing long print runs so the door helped.

. Actually recently met a lady who was a young secretary where I worked straight out of university.
