I was taking these earlier in the year for MH problems but stopped taking them for a few reasons. Now when I first started taking them they absolutely destroyed my sex drive. I've not had any for possibly 8wks now and still don't have the sex drive that I had before. Anyone else experienced this?

Before I was like a dog on heat, while on them they killed my sex drive and now if I watch porn yes I get turned on but not like before. Its weird.

The SSRIs and SNRIs have been discussed in a few posts over the years. Everyone's response is individual, though common themes are shared. Coming off them very gradually is important, whatever the negative impacts of them.

Maybe that's where I went wrong then, as I just stopped taking them.

When I had them there was initially 2 weeks when sex didn't even cross my mind. Then one day woke up with a mega morning glory on, and from that point on back to usual...justca struggle cum, but not as much as citalipram

Unfortunately, it's quite a well-documented side-effect.

Sertraline absolutely killed my sex drive. I didn't want sex, when I tried I would always be too dry and couldn't orgasm.

Citalopram made me suicidal.

Trying to go back to the gp to explain why I couldn't take them was awful as they don't feel that sex is important. How do you explain that it feels like part of your identity has been taken away?

I remember my first orgasm when it finally returned. I cried.

Yep, and the withdrawal symptoms are shit too. Try Fluoxetine

The time will vary depending on dose and length of time you were using them. The lack of sex drive will most certainly wear off !

Here and There

I couldn’t reach orgasm when I took it. Had a big impact on my relationship so I stopped taking it. Effects wore off fairly quickly.

Yeah effected me for a month then couldn’t reach climax fully. I’d cum but no feeling.

Got used to it occasionally I’d cum properly but once I came off them that first time I cummed properly was like heaven. Never felt anything like it was all over body sensation.

Like all my senses were cumming at once

Yep took months for mine to come back

Even if I tried to have sex while I was on it as soon as the other person touched me I would get red hot and sweat as if my life depended on it, was completely unable to regulate my body temperature

Plus my ability to orgasm was out of the window

Never known anything like it

Me too ??

I take them 100mg. Been on loads of different ones. This is my fourth. Trying to tell the doctor why it’s bothering you is a nightmare. In the end I’ve accepted it. I can’t function without them. I stopped taking my tablets last year. Caused me to be in a weird void. I just didn’t feel anything and cried all the time.

Just remember you are not alone xxx

I did enjoy the no sex drive thing sounds weird but it let me relax and not be bothered by being always horny.

I did feel I missed a trick during the no cumming phase as no amount of wanking would make me cum if only I’d had a girlfriend to enjoy that side effect lol

But overall sex stuff aside I did find a benefit in taking it I know it’s not for everyone but it worked for me

Citalopram made me insatiable and Sertaline I lost almost all my sex drive and was too dry to enjoy it even when I did want it both common side effects of SSRIs.

Now I'm on Mirtazapine (categorised as a mood stabliser) with no side effects impacting my sexlife

I could have sex three times a day AND masterbate at least 4 times on top of that and still want more. It was like I was addicted and couldn't really think of anything else other than when/where I'd get my next "fix"

I was on sertalin 100 mg a day after my brother died they are nasty i was on them for 5 years it was a nightmare coming of them suffered for about 8 weeks after with sideafects it’s easier for a doctor to just put these in your hand than actually finding the cause of the problem

Yikes. Joking aside, you have my sympathy. We all go through phases like that (start of a new relationship, anyone?) but to not be able to turn it off, and for it to be tied to your mental stability … yeah, no thanks. Not fun.

My OH is on these. Over 8 years now at 200mg a day (started on 50mg and kept bumping it up to the maximum dose permitted). Yes you read that right. He says he doesn't know if they're actually doing anything positive anymore. He's been back to the doctors several times and he just feels fobbed off. They say reducing the dose of Sertraline until he can begin a new type of antidepressant might prove too difficult. He's at a loss. I'm at a loss. We do have an active sex life but it's sometimes swings and roundabouts.

Thanks everyone, it was affecting my MH again as thought I may be broken lol. I'll hopefully soon start to feel different, but won't hold my breath as around my area its gone dry. It's really difficult to get a social let alone some fun. Well hope I start to go back to my old ways soon. I know one thing though....it just goes to show we're not alone with MH issues and at least we're all talking about our situations on here together. Thank you all again and hope you're all ok.
