So many people list the messages they will ignore like "nice pictures", "how are you finding the site", "how's it going" etc etc. Well I'd be interested to know what opening line is left?

I prefer ones that are more than 6 words long, have none or not many spelling mistakes, that show they have 'seen' more than just my cock pics....

"Like your cock" from straight guys doesnt hack it....

Start with "Hi" and add a little about what you are after?

Just “hey” and nothing else.

Hi, read your profile, I like what I see, attached face pic.

Nothing else needed. If they like my pic and read my profile they know what to do.

I feel some over complicate it.

Just have to remember we are all just people... approach people as you would any other time.

As you figure someone's vibe introduce dirty talk if that works for the situation a little later on. Most of us would like a normal convo first to see how we all mesh.

"Hello, here's my face, here's my body (taken from at least a meter back), are you interested." That's more than enough for us, hell even just 'Hi' works because the first thing we do is look at your profile before we even open the message and base it on that anyways. No amount of clever opening lines, pointless jokes or telling us facts about you, will have any bearing on if we play or not.

Doesn't have to be complicated.

Be polite, be respectful.

Don't talk to the person like they are an object to get you off.

If talking to a couple, address both of them.

Just show that you've actually read their profile and explain why you think you would be a good match.

Lack of effort and obvious cut and paste messages just make you seem like you are throwing a net out to catch whatever you can get.

Something in the message that shows our profile has been read.

Instant turn offs are the blatant copy and paste messages

"Hi, read your profile, I like what I see, attached face pic.

This is exactly what I was going to write. It’s more than ‘hi’, doesn’t ask an inane question and isn’t war and peace. It’s perfect.

That is, as long as they HAVE read your profile. If they haven’t and that’s obvious it’s just as annoying as the others.

No matter how crap the first message is I always reply because I have the time but I always reply like for like.

A “hi” gets a hi reply and a “how’s you “ get a ok thanks reply.

If I can tell someone hasn’t bothered to read our very simple profile then I don’t bother to tell them that we live 400 miles away.

Fab is a really easy site to use and have fun on with the right approach and a tiny bit of effort.

Personally we have had less than five decent messages in the months we have been on here.

Now I’ve revealed our secret we will be over run with “hi” messages.

You need to show...

...some personality,

...that you potentially can hold a conversation that's not just about sex,

...that you are interested in the specific person/people you are writing to, rather than carpet-bombing people with messages in the hope that somebody somewhere will shag you if you contact enough people.

Back home in Glasgow

There is no magic formula as different people like different things.

It could be more my profile and pics put people off but if I go succinct, it seems people want longer.

If I go long, people think it is a cut/paste.

I now wait patiently for people to message me.

(Not the best tactic but hasn't affected my inbox any different)

This. And our mood.

Same message today vs tomorrow might get a different reaction from us.
