Why the discrimination against 50+

So we’ve come across so many profiles who set their cut-off at age 50. Curious to know, why the hard cut-off? It’s not like a switch flicks.

I don't think it's discrimination.

Why have you set your age parameters as they are op?

People over 50 must face facts. They are over the hill and far away. All the relics of the 1970's are no longer relevant in our time. Now is the time for the plus 50 club to slow down, take a breath and settle into your M&S slippers. Put the cocoa on, slump into your Shackleton's high seat chair and adjust your compression socks. It will soon be time for Bargain Hunt. Step aside for you are done. Finished. Game over.

some very lovely people here in and over 50.

and they look great too, some people just cannot look past things and need to make a big issue out of it.

this should be fun, not a label to stick on people

23:59:59 - 29, 00:00:00 - 30

23:59:59 - 55, 00:00:00 - 56

Your personal preferences

Everyone has what they are comfortable with in their own mind for their own reasons.

If i met you in a social setting it might be slightly different but on fab its a hard no based on that reason alone if that makes sense?

"Yes it is discrimination, not that that’s a bad thing per se. But I’m interested in why the hard cut-off."

Discrimination in the sense of recognising when something is good or bad?

Our age range actually starts at 50. That's because we, from experience, know that people younger than that often aren't compatible with us sexually. I'm guessing that people who have an upper limit of 50 feel the same about people over that age.

Why wouldn't you want to meet people of our age?

I guess its the stages of peoples lives they are at too, me being at the young end for the scene and someone who is in there 60s for example are at two different ends of the time lines. In reality what would we have in common other than swinging. For me it goes deeper than just wanting a hook up, for some they are fine with not having anything in common but for me i want to have that connection. In reality would we have that, probably not

Does it mean I wouldn’t talk to you, no. If i saw you in a social setting i would absolutely talk with someone in the catagory but would anything happen probably not unless there was a lot of getting to know eachother ect to build that relationship.

When we first joined the site we initially set our limits to 10 years either side of us, but have found that the majority of people here we get on best with would be in the 50+ category after some club meets.

People don't always know what they want until they find it.

Socially we'll interact with every age group, in fact we feel bits important to. Sexually *for us* it's different and we prefer over fifties.

Yes it’s preferences, but some have been on here for (say) ten years, and still don’t raise their maximum age cut off.

I raise mine each year, on my birthday.

But since I hit 50 I’ve noticed a massive decline in interest.

"Yes it is discrimination, not that that’s a bad thing per se. But I’m interested in why the hard cut-off."

No it's not discrimination at all.People don't want to meet people of a certain age and that is their choice. Just because it puts some people outside their age range is not even slightly discriminatory against them. It just means they don't want to have sex with them.

I'm 50 I am outside people's age ranges and you know what it doesn't bother me a bit because I understand I'm too old for some people on here and that is fine. I concentrate on people whose age ranges and filters I suit rather than worry about those whose I fall outside of.

Age is not just a number to a lot of people and it actually annoys me when people try and shame people because they fall outside their age ranges either end of the scale. And use the term discrimination to describe it. No one should have to explain why they don't want to have sex with others.

Oh and my filters are set as they are because I don't want a load of messages. If I see someone outside of my age range especially the upper level I will and have made first contact. As long as I fall within their filters of course

Well yes, you may have a point to a certain degree, but M&S slippers is perhaps bordering on the insult line.....much better value at Home & Bargains at £12.99 depending on what style, and they even stock my size 12's aswell, it's a no brainer, why pay inflated M&S prices just because of the name.....plus Bargain Hunt is utter shite too, only because we can't lift our legs as high as they do when they do that ridiculously stupid kick at the end!!

We’ve had the same discussion as a couple. There’s a cohort who simply accept 50 as a threshold and give up. Which makes no sense given what we know about anti-aging science.

Right.....so much to unpick here. When you're bestowed with a 50+ age, that doesn't automatically mean you become unattractive. Basically, you're talking bollocks.

As a male on here, you're hardly going to be swimming in fanny, so, remember that you will get to this age, you will gain weight, you will continue to want to fornicate and one will have earned respect.

You also become a better lover, with skills you can only dream of right now.

I could have just put 'fuck off', but my age dictates I shouldn't do that.

Honestly, we really don’t give a shit. We really are curious at what makes 50 a threshold. Is this a perception issue, which in reading responses in this forum, it seems like it is. No judgement from us though. Just curious.

How about hard lower age limits? Are those discrimatory too?

I've never been with a woman older than me at any stage in my life so my upper limit isn't set in stone.

My lower limit increases every time my eldest child has a birthday and will always remain 10 years above her age.

I won't engage with anyone below that age mainly because I am not attracted to that age group as a whole but also because when I have engaged in the past they have been relentless in trying to get me to change my mind.

Much easier now to just ignore.

Amateurs! Why aren’t you shopping for second hand teabags on eBay and ironing your clingfilm to use again while humming “We’ll meet again”. Honestly, the youth of today… tut tut."

Agree with that, but there's nothing more enjoyable than sitting in our 'HSL sponsors daytime television' recliners and watching all the ads like Pure Cremation, Sunlife Over 50's plan, and not forgetting the equity release ads with happy jolly over 50's sat in their fifty foot kitchen in a big house in Surrey, laughing with their grandkids and so so happy before signing the SAID grandkids inheritance away!

Those second hand teabags are being stored safely for the inevitable second pandemic that's just around the corner.....

We’ve dropped off some searches or can’t message people who want under 45.

No point moaning about preferences - cos then the people you don’t want to meet cos of your preferences will think they are the exception to your rule.

They’ve probably already gone above what they really want go cover the ones that break the mould.

People do seem to be staying younger for longer, agreed -- but we're here today and not 30 years ago.

We work hard, but we’re gracious in accepting that by the time you hit our age you’ve had the stuffing knocked out of you. But you haul yourself up, and keep working hard. We have our range set as we have, because ... We recognise the are some untruthful about their age, and others a few years older/younger chancing it.

On top of that, we're not looking for someone close to the age of Mrs A's Parents, or Mr M's children.

We may well stray from the range we have, if it feels ok, but like you OP, we 'had to' select an age range, and like you, we may be happy to extend.

Ours was set to 50 and we’ve lowered it to 45. It’s not a hard cut off though. It’s a soft cut off and open to meeting couples older, but the reason for the cut off is to filter the searches more easily and the majority of couples over 45 have, to be honest, ‘let them selves go’ which isn’t what we are looking for. Our message filters don’t block anyone because of their age though, so we do find hot couples over 50 sometimes. There’s a lot of couples who filter the lower age groups. I think it’s the same thing.

Just a reminder there are two people behind this profile.

We did not mean to offend anybody. Maybe, ‘discrimination’ was a poor choice of a word.

Discrimination has a bad connotation these days. According to our favourite AI ‘discrimination can never be a good thing’… But according to a dictionary it can just be the knowledge between good or a bad or understanding the difference of things. So of course it can be a good thing. Ponder that for a second.

So Mrs N asked a question genuinely just out of curiosity. Not to garner views or whatever.

Personally, I find the person more interesting than the integer.

It also depends on the people involved; a week ago, I was lucky enough to meet a fabulous couple in there mid forties; they'd set their age limit to 60 (they hadn't blocked people above that age messaging) but were open minded enough to consider me... We had a lot of fun

My partner and I don't meet people under 30-35 - it's not discrimination, just preference for all sorts of reasons (and yes we've had opportunities. Age of kids is one thing but generally not likely to be sexually compatible with us. We find people a little older likely to be way better at sex, more into kink aspects and much more comfortable in groups but that's just our opinion/preference.

PS if you think 50 is bad wait for 55. Seems to be even more who have that as a limit. Under 55 you seem close to 50. Over 55 and then 60 is coming and that is just too old and yuk for many

Do you OP have sex with everyone else who wants it? Any gender, adult age, looks etc? If you don't, do you consider yourself as discriminating? If not, why not?

"People over 50 must face facts. Finished. Game over. Oh well I'm in a hotel close by so guessing that's a NO to a BJ "

Groddamnit! That would have been a big sloppy YES!

I hope I didn't come over too easy and desperate there?

It's not discrimination. People have preferences. Some Start their age at 35 - do under 35s say they're discriminated against? No. Or not that I've heard so far.

Don't be a face ache, just find someone who is interested in your age group.

If you’re in your 30s then 50 seems a lifetime away.

If you’re 50, 30 seems like yesterday.

"It is them who are missing out as people over 50 can be more exciting and adventurous as people in their 20s or 30s."

They are not missing out on anything if they don't want to meet people of that age.

"So we’ve come across so many profiles who set their cut-off at age 50. Curious to know, why the hard cut-off? It’s not like a switch flicks."

I read it like if their cut off is 50, they probably aren't looking for people much over the age of 43-44

50 is just a nice round figure

It's because they are normally really fat, out of shape and unattractive.

"Brad Pitt is pushing 60...would he be out of bounds??..some people age great"

This is the thing though, we can mention celebrities that look great, but they're not likely to be here.

People use the tools we have, not necessarily to place a firm 'absolutely not' but to help with filtering.

I'm sure the majority will be willing to go a little beyond their age range, for the right person, and I'm sure if initial contact is in person, rather than online, it again may be a differing result.

People use the site to the best of their abilities/knowledge, and the age selection is simply a small part of that.

I think, the OP has the answer amongst replies, because when questioned about their age restrictions, they've found the answers.

Some being vthe operative word. Most people age as you'd expect.

I wasn't interested in Brad Pitt when he was younger

I only have another year to go before the end of days. I guess I will need to squeeze a lot of Gen X/why/Z's in while I still can.

How young a person does a fifty something want to appeal to?

My view is that I don’t set age limits for the exact reason that someone could be within my parameters at one moment and outside the next . You never know what you could be missing out on.

"Personal preferences are just that, personal

Yeah but 11:59 - still 49, 12:00 - 50."

Thats like saying 11:59- stil 99, 12:00- 100. Youve set an age limit too no?

Yeah it's shame as we may be in our 50s, but I'm sure we don't look it, and we certainly don't act it!
