Manchester

Has anyone been to a Manchester social?

I'm think of going to the next one, and was wondering if anyone can offer bit of an insight as to what it was like when you went last time.

Do people make lots of connections, or can it be difficult to interact with people..often single guys have it bad on the app. was wondering if the same vibe is in the socials?

Manchester social is great, lots of awesome people there.

Same with any event, effort in will mean results out. Make sure you message the profile to get your place!

Getting a dong off the doormen is what to look out for

I've been to 2 ,I am half a couple though so always have my partner there .

Enjoyed both though & chatted to some great people.

It is a 2 way thing,you get out of it what you put in.

If you're going to any social as a single male my advice would be to join in with as many forum topics with people who are going so they get to know you or if they use the chat rooms do the same there, A lot of people will be going that already know each other so will form little friendly groups while chatting/dancing etc, Trying to break into them groups will be hard for a unknown single Man, Not so hard for single Women for obvious reasons

Is it filtered and the guest list determined by the organisers based on anything more than 'would you like to come?'.

Because if so, then that's not really inclusive. There's a social held frequently I Bristol that we'd love to go to bar one specific thing- they don't allow single guys to attend.

Single women are of course most welcome and couples too. But no guys.

So we don't go. Likewise we wouldn't visit a club that streams applicants for membership based on age, looks, gender, sexuality.....pretty much any subjective variable.

The idea of people choosing who gets to attend is fine for private parties in your own home imho. Outside of that? Clubs and socials should be open to anyone who wants to attend and will respect the rules/expected behavioural standards (although of course you never know so.eone til they turn up!).

Especially socials. People are always advised to get out there and mix to show the real them. Deciding someone doesn't fit a pre-conceived notion of who is suitable isn't a positive move.

As far as I know, all you need to have is an active fab account, ie not hidden!

Great, thanks. We'd heard a few people say that they'd been told they couldn't attend and there was some kind of 'issue' for some that used to attend the similar event in Manchester organised by other people, meaning the guest list was always 'full' whenever they asked to attend.

But hey - rumours abound about these events depending on who you ask.

Shame it's so far from us. If the Bristol one was more inclusive (i.e. allowed single males) we'd be there in a heartbeat.

Sadly every time the Birmingham one is on we're working. Manchester is sadly too far from an overnight trip.

This has kind of disappointed us to read.

We are friends with the organiser and have been to 3 Manchester socials and she (was they until recently) always try their hardest to provide a good day at often their own expense . The list Is absolutely open to everyone and I know she’s told me before that it fills up fast but is often blighted by no-shows which takes places away from them that genuinely wanted to do - I know GG would absolutely have everyone if she could and she can’t even come on here to defend herself or say anything

No wonder they want to pack it in with all the ‘choosing who goes’ and other rumours knocking around.

If you don’t want to go that’s fine but it just saddens us to read this when she’s our friend and we know how much effort she and pixie both put into trying to make a good day.

I’ve attended many Manchester socials from the original MLS ones to the new MCR socials that are organised by GG and Pixie. All are actively welcome and it’s fully inclusive, no hidden criteria to be accepted. The ladies work tirelessly to make everyone feel welcome!

I’ve had some fantastic weekends in Manchester attending them and have made some of the best friends I’ve got in my life at them.

Exactly. My experience of being to nearly all of the Manchester Socials in the last 4 years, is that GG and Pixie (as well as Spurs for the pre-Social) work their socks off, completely selflessly to try and ensure that everyone is included and has a good time.

As at every social, there are a numbers limit to keep it balanced, but there are no pre-selections. We have friends we met at the socials from years ago and friends we have only in the last 12 months. Single women, couples and single men alike.

If you’re coming, bring your best social selves and get involved as much as you can. Doing so will transform what fab is for you, getting to meet people in real life, see the face behind the profiles and maybe meeting some people who you click with.

The Manchester Social will always have. A special place in our heart, since this social is where Cherry and I met, we will be sad to see it end, but we also wish the organisers all the very best for the future.

I hope that answer‘a the OP’s question and helps people see the Social is well run.
